Putting on the Armor of God

Possible Viewpont: Evangelical Christian

Title: Putting on the Armor of God

Lesson Objective: To teach young children about putting on the armor of God and how it can help them in their daily lives.

Introduction:
Hello, boys and girls! Today, we are going to learn about something very special that God has given us to help us through our daily lives. It’s called the “armor of God.” Just like a brave knight puts on armor to protect himself in battle, we can put on the armor of God to protect ourselves against the bad things in the world.

Discussion:
1. The Belt of Truth: Just like a belt holds everything together, the belt of truth helps us to know what is real and right. We should always tell the truth and believe in what is true.

2. The Breastplate of Righteousness: A breastplate protects the heart, and the breastplate of righteousness helps us to do what is good and right in God’s eyes.

3. The Shoes of Peace: Just like shoes help us walk, the shoes of peace help us to have a peaceful and kind attitude towards others.

4. The Shield of Faith: A shield protects us from danger, and the shield of faith helps us to trust in God and believe in His promises.

5. The Helmet of Salvation: A helmet protects our head, and the helmet of salvation helps us to remember that Jesus saved us and we are safe in Him.

6. The Sword of the Spirit: Just like a sword helps us fight, the sword of the spirit is God’s word, the Bible, which helps us to know and obey God’s commands.

Conclusion:
Now that we know about the armor of God, let’s remember to put it on every day, just like we put on our clothes. It will help us to be strong, courageous, and protected in all that we do. Let’s pray and ask God to help us always remember to put on His armor and to trust in Him every day. Amen.

Object Lesson

Props needed:
– A helmet (can be a toy knight’s helmet or a construction hat)
– A breastplate (a cardboard cutout in the shape of a chest plate)
– A shield (a small plastic or cardboard shield)
– A belt (a simple fabric belt)
– A sword (a plastic sword or a cardboard cutout)

How to present the illustration:
1. Gather the children and explain that just like a knight wears armor to protect themselves, we also need to put on the “armor of God” to protect ourselves from the things that might hurt us.

2. Show them the helmet and explain that this represents the helmet of salvation. Just like a helmet protects a knight’s head, the helmet of salvation protects our minds and thoughts. Encourage the children to think about how knowing they are saved can protect their thoughts and give them confidence.

3. Show them the breastplate and explain that this represents the breastplate of righteousness. Just like a breastplate protects a knight’s heart, the breastplate of righteousness protects our hearts by reminding us to do what is right and pleasing to God.

4. Show them the shield and explain that this represents the shield of faith. Just like a shield protects a knight from incoming attacks, the shield of faith protects us from things that might make us doubt or fear.

5. Show them the belt and explain that this represents the belt of truth. Just like a belt holds a knight’s armor together, the belt of truth holds everything together for us by reminding us to always be honest and live by the truth.

6. Show them the sword and explain that this represents the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Just like a sword helps a knight defend themselves, the word of God helps us when we face tough situations by guiding and comforting us.

7. Encourage the children to imagine putting on each piece of the armor of God and ask them to think about how each piece can help them in their daily lives.

8. Conclude by praying with the children, asking God to help them remember to put on the armor of God each day.

Craft Idea

Craft: Paper Plate Armor of God

Supplies:

– Paper plates
– Construction paper (red, yellow, green, blue, orange, purple)
– Scissors
– Glue
– Markers or crayons
– Stapler

Instructions:

1. Begin by cutting out small pieces of colored construction paper in the shapes of a belt, breastplate, shoes, shield, helmet, and sword.

2. Cut the paper plate in half. These will be the base for the armor.

3. Using markers or crayons, have the children decorate the paper plates with patterns and colors.

4. Help the children glue the colored construction paper pieces onto the paper plates to represent the different pieces of the armor of God.

5. As they work, discuss the significance of each piece of armor and how it relates to the lesson on the “Armor of God”.

6. Once the pieces are glued on, staple the half-plates together so they can be worn as a breastplate.

7. Encourage the children to put on their armor of God, and discuss ways to apply the lesson to their daily lives as young Evangelical Christian children.

This craft will help reinforce the lesson on the “Armor of God” and allow the children to visually represent and understand the different pieces of armor mentioned in the Bible.
