Title: The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

Lesson Aim: To teach young children about the significance of the seventh seal and the golden censer mentioned in Revelation chapter 8.

Introduction: Begin by explaining to the children that the book of Revelation is a special book in the Bible that tells us about the amazing things that will happen in the future. Today, we are going to learn about the seventh seal and the golden censer mentioned in Revelation chapter 8.

Story: Read Revelation 8:1-5 from a children’s Bible or paraphrase it in a way that is easy for them to understand.

After the reading, explain to the children that the seventh seal is like the last piece of a puzzle in the book of Revelation. When the seventh seal is opened, amazing things will happen, and we will learn more about God’s plan for the world. We can imagine it as a big surprise party that God has planned for us!

Then, talk to the children about the golden censer. Explain that it is a special container used for holding incense, and in the Bible, incense represents the prayers of God’s people. When the angel uses the golden censer in Revelation 8, it shows us that God listens to our prayers and that they are very important to Him.

Craft Activity: Provide the children with materials to create their own golden censers using cups and yellow construction paper. Encourage them to write or draw their prayers on small pieces of paper and place them inside their censers as a reminder that God hears their prayers.

Discussion: Ask the children to share something they would like to pray for and encourage them to understand that God listens to their prayers just like in the story.

Conclusion: Remind the children that God has a special plan for the future, and we can be excited to be a part of it. Encourage them to continue praying and trusting in God, knowing that He always hears and answers their prayers.

Prayer: Lead the children in a simple prayer, thanking God for always listening to their prayers and for His amazing plans for the future.

As children are just beginning to understand the deeper meanings of the Bible, it is important to convey the message of Revelation chapter 8 in a way that is relatable and understandable to them. By using storytelling, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions, children can begin to grasp the significance of the seventh seal and the golden censer in God’s plan.

Object Lesson

Props needed:
– A toy knight figure or costume
– A small toy censer or incense burner
– Small toy animals representing the four living creatures mentioned in Revelation 4:6-8
– Gold glitter or gold confetti
– A picture or drawing of a seal

Presentation:
Start by explaining to the children that you will be telling them a story from the Bible about The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer. Show them the picture or drawing of a seal and explain that in the Bible, a seal often represents something that is hidden or a mystery.

Next, have a volunteer come up and dress up as a knight, or use a toy knight figure to represent the opening of the seventh seal. Explain that in the story, the knight opens the seal to reveal what is hidden behind it.

Now, give the child the small toy censer or incense burner and have them pretend to swing it back and forth as if they were in a parade. Then, explain that in the Bible, a golden censer is used to burn incense as a symbol of the prayers of God’s people.

Finally, bring out the small toy animals representing the four living creatures mentioned in Revelation 4:6-8 and sprinkle gold glitter or confetti over them. Explain that in the story, these creatures are the ones who offer the prayers of God’s people to Him.

Finish by reminding the children that just like the story, our prayers are like sweet-smelling incense to God, and that they are important to Him. Ask the children to think of one thing they would like to pray for and encourage them to do so.

Craft Idea

Craft Idea: Prayer Jar

Supplies:
– Small glass jar with lid
– Gold or white paint
– Paintbrush
– Yellow or gold ribbon or string
– Construction paper or cardstock in red, orange, and yellow
– Scissors
– Glue
– Markers or stickers
– Small pieces of paper

Instructions:
1. Begin by painting the lid of the glass jar with gold or white paint. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.
2. While the lid is drying, cut out small flame shapes from the red, orange, and yellow construction paper. These will represent the fire from the golden censer mentioned in Revelation chapter 8. You can also use markers or stickers to decorate the flames.
3. Once the lid is dry, attach the flames to the lid using glue, arranging them in a circular pattern to represent the fire from the censer.
4. Cut a piece of the yellow or gold ribbon or string and tie it around the neck of the jar, creating a decorative bow.
5. Encourage the children to write down their prayers on the small pieces of paper and place them inside the jar. Explain to them that just as the prayers of the saints were offered up with incense in the Bible, their prayers are like a sweet fragrance to God.
6. As they place their prayers in the jar, they can take turns shaking it gently, symbolizing the angel offering the prayers with incense in the golden censer.
7. Encourage the children to take their prayer jars home and continue adding prayers to them as a reminder of the lesson and a visual representation of their own prayers ascending to God.

This craft ties in with the lesson on Revelation chapter 8 by helping children understand the concept of prayers being offered up to God like incense in the golden censer. It also provides them with a tangible way to express their own prayers and connect with the lesson on a deeper level.
