Sacrificial Love

Title: Sacrificial Love

Introduction:
Today we are going to learn about a verse from the Bible that shows us how much God loves us and how we should love others. The verse is 1 John 3:16.

Lesson:
The Bible tells us in 1 John 3:16, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

Jesus showed us the ultimate example of sacrificial love when he died on the cross for our sins. He loved us so much that he was willing to give up his life to save us. This kind of love is selfless and goes beyond just doing nice things for others. It is about putting others before ourselves and being willing to make sacrifices for their well-being.

Just like Jesus showed us sacrificial love, we should also show love to others in the same way. This means being kind, caring, and willing to help others, even if it means giving up something that we want. Whether it’s sharing our toys, helping a friend in need, or being patient with someone who is difficult to love, we can show God’s love through our actions.

Craft Activity:
To help us remember the lesson about sacrificial love, let’s make a craft together. Let’s create a heart-shaped symbol with the words “Sacrificial Love” written on it. You can decorate it with stickers, glitter, or anything else you like to make it special. This heart can remind us to show love to others just like Jesus showed love to us.

Closing:
Remember, God’s love is sacrificial, and he wants us to show that same love to others. Let’s always be willing to put others before ourselves and make sacrifices for their sake. By following Jesus’ example of sacrificial love, we can spread God’s love to those around us.

Title: Sacrificial Love

Props Needed:
1. A plush toy or stuffed animal
2. A small wrapped gift
3. A children’s Bible or picture book
4. A heart-shaped sticker or cutout
5. A bandage or adhesive bandage

Illustration:
Begin by showing the plush toy or stuffed animal to the children and explain that it represents someone they love very much, like a friend or a family member. Then, explain that sacrificing means giving up something important or special for someone else.

Hold up the small wrapped gift and explain that it represents something valuable or important to them. Ask the children what they would be willing to give up for their loved one, such as a favorite toy or treat. Then, explain that sacrificial love means being willing to give up something important for someone you care about.

Next, open the children’s Bible or picture book to 1 John 3:16 and read aloud, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” Explain that Jesus showed sacrificial love by dying on the cross for us, even though He did nothing wrong.

Place the heart-shaped sticker or cutout on the plush toy or stuffed animal to symbolize love. Then, place the bandage or adhesive bandage on top of the heart to show that sacrificial love involves giving up something for the ones we love.

Finally, encourage the children to think of ways they can show sacrificial love to others in their lives, such as helping a friend in need or sharing their belongings with someone less fortunate. Remind them that sacrificial love is a powerful way to show kindness and care for others.

Craft Idea

Craft Idea: Sacrificial Love Keychains

Supplies:
– Small wooden or foam hearts
– Acrylic paints
– Paintbrushes
– String or keychain rings
– Markers or Sharpies
– Glue
– Scissors

Instructions:
1. Begin by discussing the concept of sacrificial love with the children, using 1 John 3:16 as a reference. Explain that sacrificial love means putting others before ourselves, just as Jesus did for us.

2. Have the children paint and decorate their wooden or foam hearts with various colors and designs. Encourage them to think of ways they can demonstrate sacrificial love through their artwork.

3. Once the hearts are dry, have the children write the Bible verse “1 John 3:16” or a simple message about sacrificial love on the back of the hearts using markers or Sharpies.

4. Attach a string or keychain ring to the top of each heart using glue, allowing it to dry completely before moving on.

5. Finally, have the children attach their Sacrificial Love Keychains to their backpacks, keys, or give them to someone as a reminder of the lesson on sacrificial love.

This craft activity will not only reinforce the lesson on sacrificial love but also serve as a tangible reminder for the children to demonstrate love and compassion towards others in their daily lives.
