Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Apostle Paul. We’d like to discuss one of your letters found in the New Testament, particularly Philippians 3:14. Can you share with us what inspired you to write this verse?
Paul: Thank you for having me. Well, in Philippians 3:14 I wrote, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” This verse was born out of my personal experiences, struggles, and deep faith in Christ. The Philippians were dear to me, and I wanted to encourage them to remain steadfast, just as I had strived to do myself.
Interviewer: Could you explain what you meant by “pressing on toward the goal”?
Paul: Of course. By “pressing on toward the goal,” I was alluding to the pursuit of spiritual maturity and, ultimately, the salvation that is found in Christ Jesus. It encompasses the lifelong journey of growing in faith, knowledge, and obedience to God’s will. It involves continually laying aside the things of the world and striving to become more like Christ.
Interviewer: And what exactly is the “prize” you mentioned?
Paul: The “prize” refers to the ultimate reward that awaits us in heaven. It is the culmination of our faith and perseverance—a life eternally united with God. This prize is not earned by our own efforts but is a result of God’s grace and our response of faith. It is the promise of eternal communion with God, free from sin, suffering, and all the limitations of this earthly existence.
Interviewer: How would you say this verse applies to people today?
Paul: The message of Philippians 3:14 remains deeply relevant today. It compels believers to keep their eyes fixed on Christ, discarding anything that may hinder their growth in faith. It urges us to remain focused on the eternal hope we have in Christ Jesus, despite the challenges and distractions that life may bring. It encourages us to press on even amidst difficulties, relying on God’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit to sustain us.
Interviewer: Thank you, Apostle Paul, for providing insight into Philippians 3:14 and its timeless message. It has been a pleasure having you here today.
Paul: You’re most welcome. It has been my pleasure as well. May God’s grace and peace be with you.
