How Evangelicals and Jehovah Witnesss view who goes to heaven

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Introduction

The Evangelical and Jehovah Witness denominations have different views on who goes to heaven. Although they both believe in heaven and strive to live a life that qualifies them for eternal life, there are significant differences in their theology.

Evangelical View on Who Goes to Heaven

Evangelicals believe that salvation is received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. According to their theology, Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. They believe that all those who put their faith in Him will be saved and spend eternity with Him in heaven. They base their beliefs on the Bible, which states that “whoever believes in Him [Jesus Christ] shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Evangelicals believe in the concept of “once saved, always saved”. This means that once a person has genuine faith in Jesus Christ, they are guaranteed salvation, and nothing can separate them from God’s love. They believe that salvation is a gift given to believers, and it cannot be earned through good works or religious efforts.

Jehovah Witness View on Who Goes to Heaven

Jehovah Witnesses believe that only 144,000 faithful followers of Christ will go to heaven. This number is derived from the book of Revelation in the Bible, which states that this is the number of people who will be chosen to rule with Christ in heaven.

Jehovah Witnesses also believe that those who are not part of the 144,000 will live on a renewed earth, which they refer to as the paradise. They believe that God’s original purpose for mankind was to live on a perfect earth, and it will be restored to that state once again after the final judgment.

Unlike Evangelicals, Jehovah Witnesses believe that one must prove themselves worthy of salvation by their actions and good works. They teach that salvation is not guaranteed, but it is something that must be earned through obedience and service to God.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Evangelical and Jehovah Witness denominations have different views on who goes to heaven. Evangelicals believe in salvation by faith alone, in Jesus Christ, while Jehovah Witnesses believe in salvation through good works, with only 144,000 going to heaven. Despite these differences, both denominations strive to live a life of faith, obedience, and service to God, with the hope of experiencing eternal life in heaven or on a renewed earth.

Bible Verses About who goes to heaven

Evangelical Theology on Who Goes to Heaven:
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Acts 4:12: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Romans 10:9: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

These verses emphasize the evangelical belief that salvation and entrance into heaven come only through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Jehovah Witness Theology on Who Goes to Heaven:
Revelation 14:1-5: “Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads… They are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins…. This is the group that follows the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.”
Revelation 7:4: “Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.”
John 10:16: “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”

These verses emphasize the Jehovah Witness belief that only a select group of 144,000 faithful believers, identified as “virgins” who “follow the Lamb wherever he goes,” will go to heaven. The majority of faithful believers will live forever on a paradise earth.
