How Catholics and Evangelicals view Gender identity

Catholic View on Gender Identity:

The Catholic Church views gender as a biological reality, determined by God at birth. The Church teaches that individuals must accept their biological sex and that gender identity is not a matter of personal choice or preference. The Church also teaches that gender complementarity is essential for the family and society’s well-being, with men and women possessing different, but complementary roles in society.

Evangelical View on Gender Identity:

Evangelical Christians believe that gender is also a biological reality, with one’s sex determined by God. However, some Evangelicals also believe that individuals can experience gender dysphoria, a condition that causes individuals to feel trapped in the wrong body. In response, some Evangelicals support therapy and counseling to help those with gender dysphoria accept their biological sex. Others advocate for more compassionate treatment and support for those who identify as transgender, while still affirming traditional views on male and female gender roles.

Bible Verses About Gender identity

Matthew 19:4 – “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’”

Deuteronomy 22:5 – A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.

1 Corinthians 11:14-15 – Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.

Galatians 3:28 – There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 139:13-14 – For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Romans 1:26-27 – Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
