How Catholics and Evangelicals view Baptism

Catholic view on Baptism
Catholics believe that baptism is one of the seven sacraments and it is necessary for salvation. Baptism is a washing with water accompanied by the words “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” In Catholicism, infant baptism is common and is seen as a way to welcome children into the Christian community.

Evangelical view on Baptism
Evangelicals view baptism as a symbolic act of publicly identifying oneself as a follower of Jesus Christ. It is seen as an outward expression of an individual’s inner faith in Christ. According to Evangelical beliefs, baptism is not necessary for salvation, but it is an important step in the Christian’s journey of faith. Baptism is typically reserved for those who have made a personal choice to follow Christ and is performed via full immersion in water.
