  • Bible Stories about Slavery:

    1. The Story of Joseph – Joseph is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and ends up being taken to Egypt, where he becomes a household slave in the house of Potiphar. Through his faith and hard work, he rises to prominence and becomes the second-in-command to the pharaoh, ultimately saving the people of Egypt and his own family from famine.

    2. The Story of the Israelites in Egypt – The Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians for 400 years. God sends Moses to confront Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites, but Pharaoh refuses. After God sends ten plagues, including the death of the firstborn sons of Egypt, the Israelites are finally released from slavery and led to the Promised Land.

    3. The Story of Paul and Onesimus – Paul meets Onesimus, a runaway slave who had fled his master Philemon. Paul teaches him about Jesus and sends him back to Philemon, asking him to forgive Onesimus and welcome him back as a brother in Christ.

    4. The Story of the Prodigal Son – While not a story of slavery in the traditional sense, this parable tells the story of a son who squanders his inheritance and ends up working as a slave to feed pigs in a foreign land. He eventually realizes the error of his ways and returns to his father, who welcomes him back as a son rather than a slave.

Bible Verses Containing the Word Slavery:

    1. Exodus 13:3 – “And Moses said to the people, ‘Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place.”
    2. Deuteronomy 5:15 – “You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.”
    3. Jeremiah 34:13-14 – “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I myself made a covenant with your fathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying, ‘At the end of seven years each of you must set free the fellow Hebrew who has been sold to you and has served you six years; you must set him free from your service.’”
    4. Romans 6:18-19 – “and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.”
    5. 1 Corinthians 7:21-23 – “Were you a slave when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.) For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ. You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.”
    6. Galatians 4:7 – “So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
    7. Ephesians 6:5-8 – “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.”
    8. Colossians 3:22-25 – “Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.”
