1. David and Goliath – 1 Samuel 17:1-58
This is a well-known story of how a young man named David defeated a giant named Goliath. Goliath was a formidable opponent, but David’s trust in God and his skill with a sling and stone allowed him to defeat Goliath in battle.
2. Samson and the Philistines – Judges 15:1-20
Samson was a man of great strength who was chosen by God to lead the Israelites against their enemies, the Philistines. In this particular story, Samson was betrayed by his own people and captured by the Philistines. He used his strength to escape and inflicted great damage on the Philistines as revenge for his capture.
3. Joshua and the Battle of Jericho – Joshua 6:1-27
Joshua led the Israelites in a battle against the fortified city of Jericho. The city seemed impregnable, but God gave Joshua specific instructions on how to win the battle. The Israelites marched around the city for seven days and on the seventh day, the walls of Jericho fell down, allowing the Israelites to conquer the city.
4. The Maccabees – 1 Maccabees 3:3-9:73
The Maccabees were a Jewish rebel group that fought against the Seleucid Empire to preserve Jewish religious practices. They fought several battles and won against a much larger and better-equipped army, ultimately leading to the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. This victory is celebrated during the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
