Standing Up for Whats Right

Possible Viewpont: Evangelical Christian

Title: Standing Up for What’s Right

Introduction:
Hello, friends! Today we are going to talk about something very important: standing up for what is right. Sometimes, we might feel like we need to "fight" for what is right, but it does not mean we use our fists or get angry. Instead, we use our hearts, our voices, and our actions to show love and kindness!

  1. Understanding Right and Wrong:
Let’s start by talking about what is right and what is wrong. Who knows what it means to do the right thing? That’s right! Doing the right thing means treating others with kindness, sharing, helping our friends, and being honest. The Bible teaches us in Micah 6:8 that God wants us to do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him.

  2. Examples from the Bible:
There are many stories in the Bible about people who stood up for what was right. One of those stories is about a young boy named David. When David saw that a giant named Goliath was bullying his people, he didn’t run away. He stood up and said, "I will fight him!" David used his faith in God to defeat Goliath, not just with a weapon, but by trusting that God was with him.

Another example is Queen Esther. She was very brave and spoke up for her people when they were in danger, even though it was scary. Esther showed us that we should stand up for others and do what is right, even when it is hard.

  1. How Can We Stand Up for What’s Right?
Now, let’s think about how we can stand up for what’s right in our own lives:
  • Be Kind: If we see someone being bullied, we can be a friend to them and help them feel better.
  • Use Our Words: If we hear someone saying something unkind or unfair, we can speak up and say, “That’s not nice!” or “That’s not fair!”
  • Help Others: If we see someone who needs help, whether it’s a friend or someone we don’t know, we can step in and lend a hand.
  1. Remembering God’s Love:
It’s important to know that when we stand up for what is right, we are not alone. God is with us! In Joshua 1:9, the Bible says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." This means that when we choose to do good things, God gives us strength and courage!

  2. Activity: "Stand Up for Kindness"
Let’s make a "Stand Up for Kindness" poster together! We can write down or draw pictures of kind things we can do for others. Maybe it’s sharing toys, helping a friend when they are sad, or saying something nice to someone.

Conclusion:
As we finish our lesson today, let’s remember that standing up for what’s right doesn’t mean using our fists; it means using our hearts. Let’s pray for courage and kindness to do what is right, just like David and Esther. God gives us the strength to stand up for others and to be lights in this world.

Let’s close our eyes and pray together about being brave and standing up for what is right, sharing the love of God with others. Amen!

Object Lesson

Title: Standing Up for What’s Right

Objective: Teach young children the importance of standing up against wrongdoings and being courageous in the face of injustice.

Props Needed:
1. A large poster or picture of a “heroic” character (like a superhero or a brave animal, such as a lion)
2. A small stuffed plush toy of a lion (or another brave animal)
3. A cardboard box decorated as a “bad situation” (this can represent bullying or unfair behavior)
4. A toy microphone to simulate giving speeches
5. A flag or banner that says “Stand Up for What’s Right”
6. Costumes (optional: capes for superheroes, hats for animals, etc.)

Presentation Steps:

1. **Introduction with the Heroic Character:**
Begin by showing the large poster of the heroic character. Explain to the children that this character stands up for what is right no matter what. Discuss the qualities that make someone a hero (bravery, kindness, standing up for others).

2. **Using the Stuffed Lion:**
Introduce the plush lion and tell a simple story about how the lion saw other animals being treated unfairly. Describe how the lion felt unhappy about this and wanted to help. Use the lion to demonstrate the importance of standing up against bad behavior. Encourage children to express how they would feel if they saw someone being treated unfairly.

3. **Introducing the Bad Situation:**
Present the cardboard box as a “bad situation.” Inside the box, you can place cut-out figures or representations of unkind actions being done (like a character being teased or bullied). Ask the children what they think of what is happening inside the box and how it makes them feel.

4. **Discussion Time:**
Explain how sometimes it can be scary to speak up when we see something wrong. Share examples of how people can stand up for what’s right – like speaking to a teacher, using kind words, or helping to resolve a situation. Ask the children if they have ever seen something similar and how they reacted.

5. **Role-Playing:**
Invite children to come up and role-play standing up for what’s right. Have them take turns standing in front of the group with the toy microphone. Encourage them to use their own words to speak against the bad behavior in the box. For example, they might say “That’s not nice!” or “We should treat everyone kindly!”

6. **Creating a Group Pledge:**
Use the flag/banner that says “Stand Up for What’s Right” and invite all the children to gather around it. Together, create a simple pledge or promise, such as: “I promise to be brave and stand up for what’s right!” Have them repeat it together.

7. **Conclusion with Heroes in Action:**
Wrap up by reinforcing that everyone can be a hero like the lion or the character from the poster. Ask the children how they can be heroes in their everyday lives and encourage them to think of someone they can protect or help.

8. **Celebration:**
As a fun conclusion, have the children march around waving the flag/banners and feeling proud of their commitment to stand up for what is right.

This interactive presentation will help young children understand the importance of standing up for themselves and others, encouraging empathy and bravery while ensuring they feel empowered to make a positive difference.

Craft Idea

Craft Idea: “Brave Shield of Faith”

Objective: To create a shield that symbolizes standing up for what is right and being brave in faith, reflecting on how to “fight” for justice and righteousness in everyday life.

Supply List:
– Paper plates (one per child)
– Markers or crayons
– Stickers (stars, hearts, etc.)
– Construction paper (varied colors)
– Scissors
– Glue
– Craft sticks (optional, for shield handles)
– Glitter (optional)
– A verse from the Bible related to standing up for what is right (e.g., Ephesians 6:13)

Instructions:
1. Introduction (1-2 minutes): Begin by discussing the lesson of “Standing Up for What’s Right.” Remind the children that while we might not be fighting with fists, we can stand up for our friends and beliefs using love, kindness, and bravery.

2. Prepare the Shields (2 minutes): Give each child a paper plate to serve as the base of their shield. Explain that this shield represents their faith and bravery.

3. Decorate the Shield (5 minutes): Allow the children to decorate their shields using markers, crayons, stickers, and any other provided materials. Encourage them to draw symbols that represent bravery and faith—like a cross, a heart, or their favorite Bible verses. If they like, they can also glue pieces of construction paper onto the plate to add color and texture.

4. Add Handles (optional) (2 minutes): If desired, help the children glue craft sticks to the back of the shield to create handles for them to hold up their shields in “fighting” for what is right.

5. Closing Discussion (1-2 minutes): Gather the children to share their completed shields with the group. Encourage them to speak about what they drew and how they can “fight” for what is right in their lives. Encourage them to hang their shields in a special place at home as a daily reminder of their faith and bravery.

6. Closing Prayer: Conclude by praying together, asking God for strength to stand up for what is right and to be brave in their faith.

This simple yet meaningful craft allows young children to engage creatively while reinforcing the lesson of standing up for righteousness in a loving and positive way.
