Title: No Fear in Love: How God’s Love Drives Away Fear

Bible Verse: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” – 1 John 4:18 (NIV)

Lesson:

Hello, children! Today, we will learn about fear and how God’s love can drive it away.

What is fear? Fear is a feeling we have when we are afraid of something or someone. We can fear the dark, spiders, or even being alone. Fear can make us feel scared, nervous, and worried.

But did you know that we don’t have to be afraid? God’s love is so powerful that it can drive away fear. In 1 John 4:18, the Bible says, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

God loves us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. Jesus showed us what perfect love looks like by sacrificing Himself for us. Because of this, we don’t have to be afraid of punishment or anything else because Jesus paid the price for our sins.

When we put our trust in Jesus and His love for us, we can have peace and not be afraid. This doesn’t mean that we won’t face scary situations, but we can handle them with courage and the knowledge that God is with us.

So, whenever you feel scared or worried, remember that God’s love is greater than fear. Spend time reading the Bible and pray to God for strength and courage. Trust in His love, and He will give you peace and drive away fear.

Let’s pray:

Dear God, thank you for your perfect love that drives away fear. Help us to trust in your love always and not be afraid. Give us peace and courage to face any challenges that come our way. Amen.

Activity:

Draw a picture of a time when you felt afraid and write down how God’s love can help you overcome that fear. Share your picture and thoughts with your family or teacher.

Object Lesson

Title: The Fear-Busting Balloon Game

Props:
– A pack of balloons
– A permanent marker
– Small sheets of paper with different fears written on them
– A pin or sharp object to pop the balloons
– A poster board with the phrase “God’s Love Drives Away Fear” written on it
– Small candies or prizes

How to Present the Illustration:
1. Begin by introducing the topic of fear and asking the children if they have ever felt afraid before.
2. Explain that fear can be like a big balloon that fills us up with scary thoughts and feelings.
3. Write different fears on the small sheets of paper and place them inside the balloons. Inflate the balloons and tie them closed.
4. Invite several children to come up and choose a balloon. Have them read the fear out loud and then pop the balloon with the pin or sharp object.
5. As the balloons pop, explain that just like the loud noise of the popping balloon surprises us, so can God’s love surprise us by driving away our fears.
6. Ask the children how they think God’s love can help them when they feel scared or anxious.
7. Show the poster board with the phrase “God’s Love Drives Away Fear” and explain that when we remember how much God loves us, we can feel safe and secure.

Optional: Give each child a small candy or prize as a reminder that God’s love is sweeter than anything we could ever be afraid of.
