Title: Building a Strong Foundation on God’s Love – A Lesson on Love and Marriage for Young Children

Objective: To teach young children the importance of building a strong foundation on God’s love in order to have a healthy, loving marriage.

Materials:

– Bible
– Whiteboard and markers
– Drawing paper and colorful pencils

Introduction:

Good morning children! Today we’re going to talk about something very important, something that God talks about a lot in the Bible – Love and Marriage. Have you ever heard of these words? Love is when we care about someone very much, and marriage is when two people promise to love each other forever. But do you know what’s the most important thing in love and marriage? It’s building a strong foundation on God’s love. Today, we’ll learn how to do that.

Lesson:

1) What is love?

– Ask the children to share how they define love. Write down their responses on the whiteboard.
– Explain to the children that love is not just a feeling, but a choice we make every day to care about and be kind to others. Jesus showed us the perfect example of love by sacrificing himself for us on the cross.

2) Why is God’s love important in marriage?

– Explain to the children that when two people get married, they promise to love and cherish each other forever. But sometimes, it’s not easy to keep that promise because people can change or difficult situations can arise.
– Share with the children that God’s love is steadfast and unchanging. When we build our marriage on God’s love, we’re building a strong foundation that will help us love and care for each other no matter what.

3) How can we build a strong foundation on God’s love?

– Explain to the children that building a strong foundation on God’s love means putting God and His Word first in our lives.
– Share with the children that we can pray together as a family, read the Bible together, attend church together, and remind each other of God’s love when things get tough.
– Encourage the children to draw a picture of what building a strong foundation on God’s love looks like to them.

Conclusion:

Remember children, building a strong foundation on God’s love is the key to a healthy, loving marriage. Let’s choose to love and care for each other every day, and let’s always put God first in our lives. We can show God’s love to the world by loving each other well.

Closing Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for loving us so much. Help us to build a strong foundation on your love so that we can love and care for each other well. Please bless our families and marriages. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Object Lesson

Prop List:
– Legos (various sizes)
– Large flat board or base
– Heart-shaped cutout
– Small toy figurines (optional)

Presentation:
Introduce the concept of building a strong foundation on God’s love by comparing it to building with Legos. Explain to the children that just as we need a strong base to build a sturdy Lego structure, we also need a strong foundation of love to build a successful marriage.

Ask the children to help you build a strong foundation by placing the largest Legos on the flat board first, similar to laying the foundation of a house. As you talk, add smaller Legos to the foundation to emphasize the importance of building a solid base.

Next, place the heart-shaped cutout on top of the foundation. Explain that the love between a husband and wife should be at the center of their marriage, just as the heart is at the center of the foundation.

To further illustrate the importance of love, place small toy figurines (optional) on top of the heart. Point out that just like the figurines, a husband and wife need to build their marriage on God’s love to create a strong and lasting bond.

Discuss the ways that God’s love can help build a strong foundation, such as forgiveness, kindness, and respect. Encourage the children to always remember the importance of love in their future relationships and marriages.

Wrap up the illustration by emphasizing the message that building a strong foundation on God’s love is essential in creating a successful and lasting marriage.

Craft Idea

Craft: Love Rocks

Supplies:
– Small rocks, one for each child
– Acrylic paint in different colors
– Paintbrushes
– Sharpie markers
– Clear acrylic sealer spray
– Newspaper or drop cloth

Instructions:

1. Begin by laying out newspaper or a drop cloth to protect your work surface.

2. Invite the children to choose a rock that they will paint and write a message on about God’s love.

3. Have the children paint their rocks in bright, cheerful colors using the acrylic paint. Encourage them to add hearts or other designs to make their rocks extra special.

4. Once the paint is dry, the children can use the Sharpie markers to write messages about God’s love on their rocks. Some ideas could include “God loves me,” “Jesus loves everyone,” or “God’s love is our foundation.”

5. Once the messages are written and the ink is dry, spray each rock with a clear acrylic sealer spray to protect the paint and marker.

6. Allow the rocks to dry completely before giving them out to take home.

7. As a closing activity, have the children share what they wrote on their rocks and how they can build a strong foundation on God’s love. Encourage them to keep their love rock somewhere visible as a reminder of God’s never-ending love.

This craft will not only provide a fun activity for the children to do, but it will also serve as a visual reminder of the lesson on love and building a strong foundation on God’s love.
