Title: Navigating the Transition to Adulthood with a Biblical Perspective

Objective: To teach teens about the importance of planning for the future with a biblical perspective, and how to navigate the transition to adulthood while seeking God’s guidance.

Introduction: As you approach the end of your teenage years, you might be wondering what the future holds for you. You might be considering your education, career, relationships, and family. This is a critical time in your life, and it’s important to approach it with a biblical perspective.

Main point 1: Seek God’s Will for Your Life

The first step in planning for the future is to seek God’s will for your life. In Proverbs 3:5-6, it says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Seek Him in prayer, read His Word, and listen to His voice.

Main point 2: Set Goals and Make Plans

After seeking God’s will for your life, set goals and make plans. Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Set goals for your education, career, relationships, and family. Make plans and work towards achieving them.

Main point 3: Be Disciplined and Diligent

As you work towards achieving your goals, be disciplined and diligent. In Colossians 3:23-24, it says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Be diligent in your studies, work, and relationships.

Main point 4: Trust God with Your Future

Finally, trust God with your future. In Jeremiah 29:11, it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Trust in His plans for your life, even if they don’t align with your own plans.

Conclusion: Planning for the future is a critical part of transitioning to adulthood, but it’s important to do it with a biblical perspective. Seek God’s will, set goals and make plans, be disciplined and diligent, and trust God with your future. As you do these things, you will navigate this transition with confidence and purpose.

Object Lesson

Props:
– A compass
– A map
– A pencil and paper
– A Bible
– An envelope

Presentation:
Begin by holding up the compass. Introduce the idea of navigating, explaining how a compass helps guide us in the right direction. Then hold up the map and discuss how it helps us plan out where we want to go.

Ask the teens to think about their future and what they hope to achieve. Offer them the pencil and paper, asking them to jot down some ideas and goals they have.

Next, introduce the Bible and how it can guide us in making choices along the way. Share a relevant scripture verse, such as Proverbs 3:5-6 (“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”)

Discuss with the teens the importance of seeking God’s guidance in their plans for the future.

Finally, bring out the envelope and explain how it represents a practical step in planning for the future. Encourage the teens to write out their goals and plans on a sheet of paper, seal it in the envelope, and keep it somewhere safe to refer back to as they navigate the transition to adulthood.

Wrap up by reminding the teens that while transitions can be challenging, with the help of God and some practical planning, they can navigate it with confidence and purpose.
