Title: God’s Promises for Overcoming Thoughts of Suicide

Introduction:
Suicide is a sensitive topic that we need to address. It is a painful experience that affects not only the person who lost their life but also those left behind. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, know that there is hope. In this lesson, we will look at some promises from God that can help overcome thoughts of suicide.

Promise 1: You are valued by God (Psalm 139:13-16)
The first promise is that you are valued by God. You are not a mistake. God created you with a purpose and plan. He knows everything about you, and you are precious in His sight. When you feel like no one cares, remember that God loves you and has a purpose for your life.

Promise 2: God is with you in your pain (Isaiah 41:10)
The second promise is that God is with you in your pain. He understands your struggles and is there to provide comfort and strength. He promises to never leave you or forsake you. When you feel like you are alone, cry out to God, and He will give you peace and strength.

Promise 3: You can find hope in God (Romans 15:13)
The third promise is that you can find hope in God. Suicide may seem like the only way out, but it isn’t. God has a plan for your life, and it is a plan for hope and a future. When you feel like there is no hope, remember that God can do the impossible.

Promise 4: You are not alone (Hebrews 13:5-6)
The fourth promise is that you are not alone. God is always with you, and He also provides people in your life who can support and encourage you. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone for help. You don’t have to face this alone.

Conclusion:
Remember these promises when you are struggling with thoughts of suicide. God loves you and has a plan for your life. You are not alone, and there is hope. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, seek help immediately. Talk to a trusted adult or contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

Object Lesson

Props Needed:
1. A piece of paper with the word “suicide” written in big, bold letters.
2. A roll of duct tape.
3. A stack of sticky notes.
4. A pen or marker.
5. A Bible.

Presentation:
1. Start by showing the piece of paper with the word “suicide” written on it. Explain that many adolescents struggle with thoughts of suicide and how it’s important to address those thoughts with the truth of God’s promises.
2. Take the roll of duct tape and tape the piece of paper onto a wall.
3. Give each teen a stack of sticky notes and a pen or marker.
4. Explain that the sticky notes represent promises from God’s Word that combat the lie that suicide is the answer.
5. Have the teens take turns writing a promise form the Bible on their sticky note and placing it on the paper with the word suicide. Encourage them to think of specific verses that have given them hope in their own struggles.
6. As more sticky notes are added, the word suicide becomes covered and obscured, representing how the truth of God’s promises can overcome even the darkest thoughts.
7. End the illustration by reading aloud some of the promises from the Bible that have been added to the paper, reminding the teens of the hope that can be found in Christ.
