Question: Is Jesus God or Man? (Evangelical Christian)

As an Evangelical Christian, I believe that Jesus is both fully God and fully man. This doctrine is known as the hypostatic union, which means that Jesus is one person with two distinct natures, a divine nature and a human nature. This belief is grounded in the teachings of the Bible, which clearly identify Jesus as God and as a man.

Firstly, Jesus is identified as God in numerous passages in the Bible. In the Gospel of John, for example, Jesus declares that he and the Father are one (John 10:30) and that anyone who has seen him has seen the Father (John 14:9). Additionally, in Colossians 1:15-20, the Apostle Paul refers to Jesus as the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, and the one through whom all things were created. These and other passages clearly indicate that Jesus is divine.

Secondly, Jesus is also identified as a man in the Bible. He was born of a woman, grew up in Nazareth, and lived a human life. The Gospel accounts attest to his humanity, as they describe his eating, sleeping, and experiencing emotions such as sadness and anger. Moreover, Jesus was subject to human weaknesses and limitations, such as hunger, thirst, and fatigue.

Finally, the hypostatic union recognizes that although Jesus had two distinct natures, these natures were not mixed or confused. They remained distinct, yet were united in one person. This doctrine is important because it helps us to understand how Jesus could be both fully God and fully man, and how he was able to pay the price for our sins on the cross.

In conclusion, as an Evangelical Christian, I believe that Jesus is both fully God and fully man, as taught in the Bible. This doctrine is a central tenet of the Christian faith, and it helps us to understand the identity of Jesus and his work of redemption on our behalf.
