Question: Can you lose your salvation? (Evangelical Christian)

As an Evangelical Christian, my belief is that once a person has truly accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they are saved and their salvation is secure. This belief is based on several key verses in the Bible, such as John 10:28-29 where Jesus says, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”

However, this belief does not mean that a person can simply say a prayer and then continue living in sin without any change. True salvation involves a transformation of the heart and a desire to follow and obey Jesus. As James 2:26 says, “faith without works is dead.” If a person claims to have faith in Jesus but their life does not reflect that faith, then it is possible that their faith was not genuine in the first place.

Additionally, it is possible for a believer to backslide and fall into sin. While this does not mean they lose their salvation, it is important for them to repent and turn back to God. As 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

In summary, as an Evangelical Christian, I believe that once a person is truly saved, their salvation is secure. However, salvation should result in a transformed life and a desire to follow and obey Jesus. It is possible for a believer to fall into sin, but they can confess and repent and be restored to fellowship with God.
