Body:
1. Esther’s humble beginning: Esther was born in Persia, and her Jewish family had been exiled there. Esther lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Despite her difficult circumstances, Esther was faithful to God and obedient to her caretaker.

2. Esther’s rise to queen: Esther was chosen to be the queen of Persia, after King Ahasuerus’s previous queen was banished. This was a position of great power and influence, but it also had its challenges. Esther had to navigate the palace politics and the expectations of her new role, all while keeping her Jewish heritage a secret.

3. Esther’s courage: When the wicked and scheming Haman plotted to exterminate all Jews in Persia, Esther was faced with a difficult decision. Object Lesson

Title: The Courageous Faith of Esther

Props Needed: a crown, a scepter, a microphone, a mirror, some cards with phrases (like ‘be bold’, ‘trust God’, ‘stand up for what is right’, ‘pray’, ‘take action’, etc.), a dress transformation (like a black cloth and a white dress)

Illustration: Start by introducing Esther as a brave and wise woman who saved her nation from destruction by showing her courageous faith. Show the crown and scepter as symbols of power and authority in the Persian empire, where Esther lived as a queen. Invite a volunteer to come up and hold the crown and scepter, and explain how Esther used her influence to advocate for her people, the Jews, who were facing genocide.

Then, show the microphone as a symbol of communication and ask the volunteer to read aloud some selected cards, one by one, that reflect the qualities of Esther’s faith. Pause after each card and ask the audience to reflect on how they can apply that quality to their own lives. For example, “be bold” may inspire someone to speak up against injustice in their workplace or community; “trust God” may comfort someone who is going through a difficult time and needs to rely on God’s promises; “stand up for what is right” may challenge someone to confront their own biases and prejudices and take a stand for justice and equality.

Next, show the mirror as a symbol of reflection and self-awareness. Ask the volunteer to look into the mirror and describe what they see. Then, wrap them in the black cloth and ask them to look again. Ask the audience what this transformation symbolizes and how it relates to Esther’s story. Explain how Esther had to hide her Jewish identity to become the queen, but later revealed it to the king and risked her own life to save her people. Ask the audience to reflect on how they can overcome their own fears and obstacles to follow their calling and make a difference in the world.

Finally, close with a prayer and a call to action, inviting the audience to follow Esther’s example and live a courageous faith that speaks truth to power, stands up for the oppressed, and trusts in God’s provision.
