Florida Donkey Outsmarts Prophet
In a small town in Florida, there once was a prophet named Balaam who was known for his divine powers. However, one day he was on a mission to curse the Israelites when his donkey had other plans.
As Balaam and his trusty donkey were traveling along the road, the donkey suddenly stopped in its tracks. Balaam, frustrated with the delay, grew angry and started beating it with a stick. But the donkey refused to budge.
Suddenly, the donkey spoke and said, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?"
Balaam, so surprised that his donkey was talking, replied, "You have made me look like a fool! If I had a sword in hand, I would kill you right now."
The donkey replied, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?"
Balaam realized that the donkey was right and felt ashamed for his actions. But little did he know that the donkey had bigger plans.
As they continued on their journey, they came to a narrow path with a wall on either side. Suddenly, the donkey saw an angel of the Lord blocking the way with a drawn sword in his hand. But Balaam couldn’t see the angel, so he kept beating the donkey to make it move forward.
The donkey, not wanting to get hurt anymore, turned off the path and into a field, crushing Balaam’s foot against the wall. Balaam was so angry that he beat the donkey again.
But then the angel of the Lord revealed himself to Balaam and said, "Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me."
Balaam immediately realized his mistake and repented of his ways. The donkey, on the other hand, became a local hero and was worshipped as a deity for its divine intelligence.
Conclusion:
The story of Balaam’s Donkey is an entertaining and humorous tale that reminds us of the importance of humility and compassion towards all living creatures, even animals. As it says in Proverbs 12:10, "The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel." So let us treat all creatures with kindness and respect, just as the donkey in this story deserved. And if you want to read the full story, check out Numbers 22:21 – 22:38 in the Bible.
