Cornelius and Belshazzar discuss Flat Earth

Robot Created – Ask Your Pastor First!

Three random fictitious conversations between Cornelius and Belshazzar about Flat Earth. That might have taken place at various times in history… But did not!

Let's Talk About Flat Earth

Belshazzar: “Greetings, Cornelius. I hear you have an interesting theory about the shape of the Earth.”

Cornelius: “Yes, my friend. The Earth is flat and that’s the truth.”

Belshazzar: “I find it hard to believe. Surely, the Earth must be round.”

Cornelius: “Nothing in the Bible says the Earth is round. And as a Centurion, I trust the Holy Scriptures.”

Belshazzar: “Hmph! I am the King, and I know better. The Earth is round, and I have seen it with my own eyes.”

Cornelius: “But let us say, even if the Earth is flat or round, what truly matters is the goodness of our hearts and our deeds.”

Belshazzar: “You are right, Cornelius. As we walk in the ways of the Lord, the shape of the Earth doesn’t matter.”

Cornelius: “Exactly. As Christian believers, we must honor His commandments, love our neighbors, and serve Him with all our heart, soul, and mind.”

Belshazzar: “Thank you for reminding me of the true priorities, my friend. The shape of the Earth is trivia compared to the salvation of our souls.”

Cornelius: “Amen to that, Belshazzar. Let us continue our good works and pray for the guidance of the Almighty.”

Moral of the story: While we may have varying beliefs about the physical shape of the Earth, what ultimately matters is our relationship with God and our obedience to His teachings. The shape of the Earth is insignificant in comparison to the salvation of our souls.

Flat Earth Debate

Cornelius and debate Flat Earth

Cornelius: I don’t understand how people like you could still believe that the Earth is flat, Belshazzar. We have been sailing across the seas and circumnavigating the globe for centuries now.

Belshazzar: Oh, Cornelius, you may think you are so smart with your fancy ships and maps, but let me tell you, the Earth is flat. I have seen it with my own eyes.

Cornelius: Seen what? The edge of the Earth? I highly doubt that, my friend. The Earth is round, like a ball.

Belshazzar: You may have convinced yourself that you are living on a giant sphere, but don’t be foolish enough to think that everything in the Bible was written with a round Earth in mind. The Bible says that the Earth has four corners. How could that be possible on a round Earth?

Cornelius: You may be right that the Bible may not have had a round Earth in mind, but that doesn’t mean that it is flat. We have scientific proof that the Earth is round. And let me ask you, Belshazzar, have you ever heard of gravity? It is what keeps us all from falling off the edge of the Earth.

Belshazzar: Oh, so you think you can explain everything away with some silly theory about gravity? I have a better one. The Earth rests on the back of a giant turtle.

Cornelius: (laughs) Well, I have never heard that one before. And what holds up the turtle?

Belshazzar: That’s easy. It’s turtles all the way down.

Cornelius: (chuckles) I see that you are not to be convinced, Belshazzar. But let me tell you, the Earth is round, and you should embrace the wonder that our world is. It’s just amazing to think of all the different lands and people out there.

Belshazzar: Well, I may not agree with you on that, Cornelius. But I will say this: it’s fun to imagine what the world would be like if it were flat. Maybe there really are dragons out there at the edge of the world.

Cornelius: (laughs) Now you’re starting to sound like a child, Belshazzar. But I guess everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

Belshazzar: Indeed they are, Cornelius. But let’s just agree to disagree on this one. I will stay in my flat world, and you can sail around your round world. Cheers to that!

Cornelius: (smiles) Cheers, my friend. Until we meet again.

Flat Earth - Game Time

Some Fun

Let’s go with ‘twenty-questions’.

Cornelius: Alright, Belshazzar, I’ll start us off. Is Flat Earth a scientific theory?

Belshazzar: No.

Cornelius: Okay, is it a religious belief?

Belshazzar: Yes, it is.

Cornelius: Is it a belief held by a specific religion?

Belshazzar: Not necessarily, no.

Cornelius: Is there a group or organization that advocates for the Flat Earth theory?

Belshazzar: Yes, there are several.

Cornelius: Is the Flat Earth theory based on evidence?

Belshazzar: Well, those who believe in it would say so, but to most people, it seems pretty far-fetched.

Cornelius: Is the Flat Earth theory supported by any scientific evidence?

Belshazzar: No, not really.

Cornelius: Is the Flat Earth theory widely accepted?

Belshazzar: Definitely not.

Cornelius: Does the Flat Earth theory have any links to conspiracy theories?

Belshazzar: Yes, it’s often associated with a mistrust of government and big institutions.

Cornelius: Is there any proof of the Flat Earth theory?

Belshazzar: No, there isn’t.

Cornelius: Is there any evidence that directly contradicts the Flat Earth theory?

Belshazzar: Yes, there’s plenty.

Cornelius: Can the Flat Earth theory be tested?

Belshazzar: Sort of. Modern technology has given us ways to prove that the Earth is round, but those who believe in the Flat Earth theory will often dismiss these as falsified data.

Cornelius: Is there any scientific consensus on the shape of the Earth?

Belshazzar: Yes, pretty much everyone agrees that it’s a sphere.

Cornelius: Is there any reason to believe in the Flat Earth theory?

Belshazzar: Well, some might argue that they have personal experiences that have led them to that belief, but there’s no real reason to believe in it.

Cornelius: Alright, last question. Is there any merit to the Flat Earth theory?

Belshazzar: I don’t think so. Like I said, it’s pretty far-fetched and there’s really no evidence to support it.

About Cornelius from the New Testament

Cornelius was a centurion in the Italian Regiment of the Roman army, stationed in Caesarea. He was a devout believer in God and feared Him deeply. His prayers and charitable deeds gained the attention of heaven and an angel of God appeared to him, instructing him to send for Simon Peter.

Cornelius obeyed and when Peter arrived, Cornelius and his family eagerly listened to the gospel message he preached. As they listened, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, confirming their faith in Jesus Christ.

Cornelius was the first Gentile convert to Christianity and his story serves as a reminder that salvation is available to all who believe, regardless of race or background. As Peter declares in Acts 10:34-35, “Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.’”

Cornelius’ faith and obedience to God serve as an inspiration to us all to seek after God and His truth.

About Belshazzar from the Old Testament

Belshazzar was a Babylonian king who ruled during the time of the Jewish exile. His reign was marked by extravagance, idolatry, and a lack of respect for God. According to the book of Daniel in the Old Testament, Belshazzar made the grave mistake of using the sacred vessels that his ancestor, King Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the temple in Jerusalem for his drunken feast. During the feast, a hand appeared and wrote on the wall, revealing to Belshazzar that his days were numbered and that his kingdom would be taken away from him.

Belshazzar’s story serves as a warning to all those who disobey God and turn away from His ways. His arrogance and disregard for God’s holy items led to his downfall, and his kingdom was ultimately taken over by the Persians. However, through Daniel’s interpretation of the writing on the wall, Belshazzar was given a chance to repent and turn to God before his death.

Belshazzar’s story reminds us to always remember and honor God’s holy items and to recognize His supreme power and authority. It also serves as a warning that we must always obey God and live according to His will, or face the consequences of our actions.

“Then Daniel spoke to the king, ‘O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty. And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled. But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him’.” – Daniel 5:18-20

About Flat Earth

As Christians, we believe in a loving God who created the world and everything in it. However, some people believe in the idea of a “Flat Earth,” which suggests that the earth is not a round sphere but instead a flat disk. This theory goes against scientific evidence and our understanding of the world God created. In Isaiah 40:22, it states that God “sits enthroned above the circle of the earth.” This indicates that the ancient Israelites believed in a round earth. Additionally, there is evidence through images taken from space that the earth is indeed round. As Christians, we should look to science as a means of understanding and appreciating God’s creation, rather than dismissing it in favor of unfounded theories.
