As a superhero, The Rocketeer is always looking for inspiration and guidance from the divine, and what better place to start than the Bible! In the book of 1 Kings, The Rocketeer was drawn to the story of King Solomon, who was famous for his wisdom and wealth.
Solomon inherited the throne from his father, King David, and quickly established himself as a powerful and just ruler. He built a magnificent temple for God in Jerusalem, and was renowned for his wisdom, which attracted many foreign leaders who came to seek his advice.
Despite his success, Solomon had a weakness for women, and he took many wives and concubines, many of whom were from foreign lands and worshiped idols. This led to his downfall. As he grew older, he became less focused on God and more on pleasing his many wives and ensuring his grip on power.
And so, after Solomon died, his kingdom was divided in two, with Israel to the north and Judah to the south. The two kingdoms were often at odds with each other, and each was ruled by a series of good and bad kings. Some of these kings were faithful to God and followed in Solomon’s tradition of wisdom and justice, while others were corrupt and led their people astray.
The most famous of these bad kings was Ahab, who married a wicked woman named Jezebel and allowed her to worship false gods. This led to a great conflict between the followers of God and the idolaters, as Elijah the prophet challenged Ahab and his false prophets to a contest to see which God was truly the most powerful.
In the end, Elijah proved that the God of Israel was the one true God, and Ahab’s downfall was sealed. But even after Ahab’s death, his family continued to cause trouble for Israel, and it was not until many years later that their dynasty was finally brought to an end.
Through it all, The Rocketeer saw the hand of God at work, guiding and directing the affairs of mortals. He marveled at the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of Elijah, and the faithfulness of those who kept the true worship of God alive even in the darkest of times.
As he closed the book of 1 Kings, The Rocketeer could not help but smile to himself. “Well, that was quite a story,” he thought. “I guess the moral of the story is, if you want to be a good king, stick to one wife and follow the word of God!”
