Once upon a time, I heard about this book called Galatians in the Bible. Being a musician, I don’t typically delve into religious texts, but I was curious. So, I started reading it.
From what I gathered, the book of Galatians was written by the apostle Paul to a group of Christians in Galatia. These Christians were apparently confused about what it really meant to be a follower of Christ. Some people were trying to convince them that they needed to follow Jewish customs and traditions in addition to their faith in Jesus.
Paul was having none of it. He tells them that following Christ is enough and that they should not be swayed by anyone who preaches a different message. He also emphasizes that despite their differences, they are all equal in Christ.
One of the key themes in Galatians is freedom. Paul emphasizes that through faith in Christ, we are free from the burden of trying to earn our salvation through works or following strict rules. Instead, we are called to love and serve one another.
Overall, the book of Galatians is a passionate defense of the true message of Christ and a call to stay true to that message despite pressures to conform to societal norms or religious legalism.
It’s a message that still resonates today, as each of us is faced with pressures to conform and follow the rules. But as Billy Joel famously said, “I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” So, let’s follow Paul’s lead and dance to the tune of freedom in Christ – no matter what others might say.
