Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon with Obadiah from the Bible
Have you ever played the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon"? The idea is that every actor is connected to Kevin Bacon by six steps or less. But what about connecting a Biblical character to Kevin Bacon? Let’s try it with Obadiah, a prophet in the Old Testament.
Step 1: Obadiah to Elijah
Obadiah served as a steward in the court of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. He was a devout follower of God and when Jezebel began to slaughter the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah hid 100 of them in caves and supplied them with food and water. One of those prophets was Elijah, who Obadiah met in 1 Kings 18:7-16.
Step 2: Elijah to John the Baptist
Elijah was a powerful prophet who performed many miracles, including raising a dead boy to life. He was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind and never died. Centuries later, John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elijah to prepare the way for Jesus. John baptized Jesus and declared him to be the Son of God.
Step 3: John the Baptist to Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a follower of Jesus who witnessed his crucifixion and burial. She was also the first person to see him after his resurrection. Before that, she had been possessed by seven demons, which Jesus cast out of her.
Step 4: Mary Magdalene to Peter
Peter was one of Jesus’ closest disciples and was also present at his crucifixion and resurrection. He denied Jesus three times but was later restored by him. After Jesus’ ascension, Peter became a leader in the early church and wrote two books in the New Testament.
Step 5: Peter to Paul
Paul, also known as Saul of Tarsus, was a persecutor of the early Christians until he had a dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. He became a powerful preacher and wrote many letters that are now part of the New Testament. Peter and Paul had a famous disagreement about whether Gentile converts to Christianity needed to follow Jewish customs.
Step 6: Paul to Kevin Bacon
Kevin Bacon is a famous actor who has appeared in many movies and TV shows. He has also been the subject of the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game, which measures the degree of separation between actors. Paul Rudd, who co-starred with Bacon in the movie "Mystic River," has a Bacon number of 1.
Biblical Verse related to Obadiah: "The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord God concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle." – Obadiah 1:1
