The Crown of Thorns Wreath – a John 19 Craft
The Crown of Thorns Wreath is a meaningful craft based on the Biblical account of John 19, where Jesus is mocked and crowned with thorns by the soldiers before his crucifixion. This craft is a reminder of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and can be used as a decoration during the Lenten season.
Materials
- Brown paper bag
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Twine or ribbon
- Real or artificial thorns (optional)
Instructions
-
Cut the paper bag into strips that are about 1 inch wide.
-
Twist the strips to create a rope-like texture.
-
Form the twisted strips into a circle and glue or tape the ends together.
-
Cut off any excess and shape the wreath as needed.
-
If desired, add real or artificial thorns to the wreath, tucking them in between the twisted strips.
-
Tie the twine or ribbon around the wreath to create a hanger.
-
Display the Crown of Thorns Wreath in a prominent place as a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice.
Optional Variation
Instead of using a paper bag, you can use grapevines or other natural materials to create the wreath. This adds a more rustic and authentic touch to the craft.
