Seed Sower – a Luke 8 Craft

Seed Sower – a Luke 8 Craft

Materials Needed

  • Small paper cups
  • Potting soil
  • Grass seed
  • Water
  • Markers or stickers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by filling each paper cup with potting soil, leaving about 1/2 inch of space at the top of each cup.
  2. Sprinkle a generous amount of grass seed over the top of the soil in each cup.
  3. Use your fingers to gently press the seeds into the soil, making sure they are covered by a thin layer of soil.
  4. Water each cup of soil and seeds, being careful not to overwater. You want the soil to be moist, but not saturated.
  5. Place the cups in a sunny location and watch as the seeds begin to grow.
  6. Optional: decorate the cups with markers or stickers to make them even more special.

Lesson Connection

In Luke 8, Jesus tells the parable of the sower who went out to sow seed. Some of the seed fell on the path, some on rocky ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. The seed that fell on good soil grew and produced a great harvest.

This craft is a fun way to connect with the parable of the sower. Just as the sower sowed seed on different types of soil, we can sow seed in our own lives in different ways. We can share the love of Jesus with others, read our Bibles, pray, and serve those in need. When we sow seeds in good soil, just like our cups of grass seed, we will see growth and a great harvest of blessings.
