"Golden Tongue" – a James 3 Craft
Supplies Needed:
- Gold glitter or paint
- White paper or cardstock
- Glue or tape
- Scissors
- Markers or pens
Instructions:
- Begin by drawing and cutting out a tongue shape from the white paper or cardstock.
- Use the gold glitter or paint to decorate the tongue, covering it completely.
- While the glitter or paint is drying, read James 3 from the Bible to learn about the power of the tongue.
- Once the glitter or paint has dried, use the markers or pens to write a verse or quote from James 3 on the tongue. Some suggestions include:
- "The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity." (James 3:6)
- "With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in God’s likeness." (James 3:9)
- "But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison." (James 3:8)
- Finally, use the glue or tape to attach the tongue to a popsicle stick or straw, creating a "Golden Tongue" that can be used as a visual reminder of the power and importance of our words.
Optional:
- Consider making multiple tongues with different verses or quotes from James 3 to use as a tool during Bible study or devotional time.
- Encourage children to think of positive and uplifting things they can say to others, and write those phrases on the tongues to make them extra special.
