Author: Absolutely. In these two verses, I wanted to emphasize the importance of the sacrifice of Christ for our redemption. I wrote, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

Interviewer: What made you feel it was important to stress this idea of redemption?

Author: Well, I was writing to a group of Christians who were facing persecution and hardship. They needed to remember the ultimate sacrifice that had been made for them and find hope in that. Plus, I believe that as Christians, we all need to regularly reflect on the significance of Christ’s sacrifice and what it means for our lives.

Interviewer: Can you tell us more about what you mean by the “empty way of life” mentioned in the verse?

Author: Yes, I was referring to the way of life that is focused on worldly things like money, power, and pleasure — things that ultimately don’t satisfy and don’t have eternal significance. Without Christ, we are trapped in that empty way of life. But his sacrifice was the key to redeeming us from that and giving us a new way to live.

Author: I hope that readers are reminded of the incredible love and sacrifice of Christ for them, and that they find hope and inspiration in that. I also hope that these verses remind us to live in a way that honors that sacrifice and frees us from the empty pursuit of worldly things.
