From an evangelical Christian perspective, it is believed that the author of 1 John was the apostle John, one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. John is traditionally considered the author of the Gospel of John, as well as three epistles that bear his name.

In 1 John 1:7, John writes, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” This verse emphasizes the importance of living a life of obedience and righteousness in order to have fellowship with God and experience the cleansing power of Jesus’ sacrifice.

They believe that his writings in the New Testament are inspired by the Holy Spirit and serve as a guide for believers in understanding and applying the teachings of Jesus Christ.
