Interviewer: Hello, can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your work?

Author: Of course. My name is Paul and I am an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have written many letters to various churches in order to instruct and encourage them.

Interviewer: Your letter to the Corinthians contains a passage that has become very popular, particularly at funerals. Can you tell us about 1 Corinthians 15:55-57?

Author: Yes, that passage speaks of the victory we have through Jesus Christ over death and sin. It reads, “O death where is your victory, O death where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Interviewer: That’s a very powerful message. How did you come to write those words?

Author: Well, I was writing to the Corinthians because there were some people in that church who were questioning the reality of the resurrection of the dead. They were saying that it couldn’t happen, that it was impossible. I wrote this passage to remind them that through Christ, all things are possible, even victory over death.

Interviewer: Why do you think those words have become so popular at funerals?

Author: I think it’s because they offer hope and comfort in a time of great sorrow. Death can be very frightening and painful, but when we remember that through Christ we have victory over death, it can help ease our fear and give us peace. It’s a reminder that death is not the end, but a new beginning.
