“Don’t let nobody look down on ya ’cause you’re young, but be an example for everybody in how ya talk, act, and believe. Don’t be no dummy, but be a role model for all them crazy folks out there.”
“Y’all gotta use the gifts the good Lord gave ya to serve others, just like good stewards of his grace. If ya preach, do it with the power the Lord provides. Do it all for His glory, so folks gonna praise Him, not you, for it.”
“We all reckon God showed us his love by sending his boy down here to die for us. Now that’s some mighty fine love, y’all. If the Good Lord loves us that much, then we oughta love one another too, ya hear?”
“So, y’all listen up and do what I’ve been preachin’ to ya. Keep doin’ what’s right and don’t be actin’ a fool. Just look at me and do as I do, and the Good Lord will bless ya real nice-like. Hallelujah, y’all!”
“Y’all gotta submit to God and resist that devil, ya hear? Draw near to God and he’ll come a-runnin’ to ya. Clean up that heart of yours, you double-minded critter. Ain’t no room for wishy-washy folks in God’s holler, I reckon.”
“God done called us to live pure lives, not floutin’ the rules like them city folk. Don’t mess around with nobody else’s spouse, but keeps to your own and shows respect. If you don’t, you’re not disrespectin’ folks, but disrespectin’ God hisself.”
“Ya ain’t gotta be all worried none, ’cause God dun sent his spirit right in ya heart, so now ya call him Daddy. Ya don’t gotta be fearin’ no more, ’cause you’s is his heir, and he’s givin’ ya all that good stuff he’s got.”
“Be right smart when you’re dealin’ with outsiders, y’all. Make the most of every chance ya get to talk. Let yer words be coated in grace, and seasoned with a good heapin’ of salt, so folks know how to respond to yo’ message.” (Colossians 4:5-6, Hillbilly version)
“When the time was just right, the good Lord sent his own boy, born from a gal, and he was put under the law just like us hill folks. But he came to set us hillbillies free, so we could become God’s kin.”
Ya’ll gotta know that God wants ya’ll to keep yer drawers on and not be foolin’ around with no hanky panky. He wants ya’ll to live clean and treat yer bodies with respect. So don’t be goin’ around actin’ a fool, ya hear?
Be right nice to each other, and keep peace like a calm creek. Put your heart into it, and stick together like honey on a biscuit. Don’t go startin’ no fuss, just be good to each other.
Hey Jed, listen up! When I holler at the good Lord, He hears me and gives me some peace in my noggin. So don’t be a ornery critter, and turn to Him when you need some help, ‘cause He’s always fixin’ to give you a hand.
