1) In Numbers 23:22, the prophet Balaam blesses the Israelites with the words, “God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.” This verse suggests that a unicorn is a symbol for strength and power.
2) Psalm 92:10 states, “But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.” In this context, the horn of an unicorn is a metaphor for a person’s strength or vitality.
3) Isaiah 34:7 speaks of divine judgment with the words, “And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.” Again, this verse likely refers to some sort of powerful animal rather than a mythical unicorn with a horn.
4) Lastly, Job 39:9-12 describes the physical features of a creature called the “unicorn” (KJV), but many scholars believe this to be a description of a wild ox: “Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?”
