The Bible Vs. Research on Bullying.

The data on Bullying:

From research on bullying, it is clear that it is a major concern in today’s society. The Bible, too, addresses the issue of bullying in various ways, providing moral guidance on how people should interact with others.

One area where research and the Bible seem to agree is in the important role that empathy plays in preventing and stopping bullying. According to a study published in the journal School Psychology International, empathy is a crucial component of positive social interaction and can help to prevent bullying behaviors (López-Castro, Garrido-Escudero, & García-Castro, 2016). Similarly, Proverbs 3:27-28 states, “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, ‘Come back tomorrow and then I’ll help you.'”

Another area where research and biblical principles align is in the importance of respectfulness and kindness towards others. Researchers from the Gottman Institute have found that a key factor in relationship success is the practice of engaging in small acts of kindness and respect for one another on a regular basis (“The Research Behind Happily Ever After,” n.d.). Similarly, Jesus taught his followers, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12).

Overall, while research and the Bible approach the topic of bullying from different angles, they agree on the importance of treating others with empathy, kindness, and respect. By incorporating these values into our lives, we can work to create a more compassionate and inclusive society for all.
