Water to Wine, Miracle Divine – a John 2 Story
It was a beautiful day in Cana, a small town in Galilee. People from all over had gathered to celebrate the wedding of a local couple. But as the party went on, something terrible happened. The wine ran out! The bride and groom were devastated. All their guests were looking forward to celebrating with them, but now, the party was in danger of being ruined.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was also at the wedding. She knew that her son could help. She went to him and whispered, "They have no wine." Jesus replied, "Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come." But Mary knew that Jesus could do something, and so, she turned to the servants and said, "Do whatever he tells you."
Jesus told the servants to fill six stone water jars with water. The jars were huge, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. The servants did as they were told. Then, Jesus said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."
The servants were hesitant. They knew that the jars contained only water. But they did as they were told, and when they took the water to the master of the banquet, something amazing happened. The water had turned into wine! And not just any wine, but the best wine the master had ever tasted.
The bride and groom were overjoyed. They could now continue their party, and everyone was amazed at what had just happened. Nobody knew how Jesus had done it, but they all knew that it was a miracle.
This miracle was the first of many signs that Jesus would perform during his ministry. It showed that he had power over nature and that he was the Son of God. As the apostle John later wrote in his gospel, "This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him" (John 2:11).
The story of the water to wine miracle is a reminder that Jesus can do the impossible. He can turn our sorrow into joy, our despair into hope, and our water into wine. All we need to do is have faith and trust him. As Jesus himself said, "Everything is possible for one who believes" (Mark 9:23).
So, let us remember the miracle at Cana and have faith in Jesus. Let us trust that he can turn our lives around and make something beautiful out of our struggles. And let us believe that he is the Son of God, who came to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.
