The Wait is Worthwhile: A 2 Peter 3 Story
The sun was just starting to set over the city as Rachel sat on her balcony, sipping her coffee and watching people go about their business. She had been waiting for weeks to hear back about the job she had applied for, and every day felt like an eternity. She was starting to get discouraged and wondered if she would ever hear back.
As she sat there lost in thought, her phone rang. It was the company she had applied to, and they wanted to set up an interview. Overjoyed, Rachel couldn’t believe her luck. The wait was finally over, and it had all been worth it.
The interview went well, and Rachel felt confident that she had made a good impression. But as the days turned into weeks, the waiting game began again. She started to second-guess herself and wondered if she had said or done something wrong.
But then she remembered the words from 2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance." She realized that just as God is patient with us, we must also be patient in our own lives and trust that things will work out in the end.
Sure enough, a few days later, Rachel received the call she had been waiting for. She got the job! The wait had been difficult, but it had been worth it in the end. She knew that she had learned an important lesson about patience and trusting in God’s timing.
As Rachel started her new job, she couldn’t help but think about how her experience mirrored the waiting that Peter describes in 2 Peter 3. Just as the early Christians waited for Christ’s return, Rachel had waited for her job offer. And just as Peter reminds us that God’s timing is perfect, Rachel had learned to trust in God’s plan for her life.
Now, every time Rachel feels the frustration of waiting, she remembers the lesson she learned and the promise of 2 Peter 3:13, "But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells." She knows that the wait may be difficult, but in the end, it will be worthwhile.
