“The Good Samaritan: A Modern Parable” – a Luke 10 Story

As Sarah walked down the busy city street, she saw a man lying on the ground. He was clearly in pain and struggling to get up. Many people walked by, some even stepping over him, but no one stopped to help.

Sarah felt a tug at her heart and knew she couldn’t just walk by. She approached the man and asked if he needed help. He told her he had been mugged and left for dead. Sarah called 911 and waited with the man until the ambulance arrived.

When they arrived at the hospital, Sarah stayed with the man, making sure he was okay and offering him comfort. The man was grateful for her kindness and asked why she had stopped to help him when no one else did.

Sarah smiled and told him the story of the Good Samaritan from the Bible. She explained how a man was robbed and left for dead, and how several religious leaders walked by without helping. But a Samaritan, someone who was despised by the Jews, stopped to help and even paid for his medical expenses.

The man was amazed by the story and thanked Sarah for being his Good Samaritan.

As Sarah left the hospital, she felt a sense of fulfillment knowing she had made a difference in someone’s life. She remembered the words of Jesus in Luke 10:37, "Go and do likewise," and knew she would continue to be a Good Samaritan to anyone in need.

The Good Samaritan: A Modern Parable reminds us that we should always be on the lookout for opportunities to help others. It doesn’t matter who they are or what they believe. We should be willing to show compassion, love, and kindness to everyone we meet. As Jesus says in Luke 10:27, "Love your neighbor as yourself." May we all strive to be Good Samaritans in our communities and make a positive impact on the world.
