Risen Savior: A Matthew 28 Story

It was Sunday morning and the sun had just risen over the quiet town. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary made their way to the tomb where Jesus had been buried. As they approached, they were surprised to see that the stone sealing the entrance had been rolled away.

Fear gripped their hearts as they cautiously entered the tomb. To their amazement, the body of Jesus was not there! Suddenly, an angel appeared before them and said, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."

The women were filled with joy and ran to tell the disciples. On their way, Jesus appeared to them and said, "Greetings! Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

The disciples were in disbelief when they heard the news, but Peter and John decided to go see for themselves. They ran to the tomb and found it just as the women had said. As they marveled at the empty tomb, they remembered the words of Jesus, "The Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!"

The disciples were filled with a newfound hope and joy as they realized that Jesus had indeed risen from the dead. They remembered his teachings and understood that he was the Messiah they had been waiting for. Jesus had conquered death and given them eternal life.

As they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus appeared to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The disciples went out into the world, proclaiming the good news of Jesus’ resurrection and sharing the message of hope and salvation with all who would listen. They were changed forever by their encounter with the risen Savior and dedicated their lives to spreading his message.

As Matthew 28:6 says, "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay." This verse serves as a reminder that Jesus conquered death and gave us eternal life. It encourages us to seek him and to share his message with others, so that they too may experience the hope and joy that comes from knowing the risen Savior.
