The sun was shining bright in the sky, and the morning air was warm, as Sarah and her husband, David, rolled up to their new house. They had just finished building it from the ground up, and they were beaming with pride. It was a beautiful two-story house with a large front yard, a white picket fence, and a porch that wrapped around the entire building. David had worked tirelessly on the foundation, and Sarah had taken charge of the interior design. Together, they had built a home they could be proud of.
As they walked through the front door, they were greeted by the smell of fresh paint and the sight of an empty room. They had decided to wait until they moved in to start decorating, so they could have a fresh start. It was exciting, but it was also daunting. They had put everything they had into this house, and they didn’t want anything to go wrong.
Over the next few weeks, they worked tirelessly to make the house a home. They hung curtains, painted the walls, and picked out furniture. They had a few hiccups along the way, like when they discovered a leak in the roof or when they realized they had accidentally painted the wrong color on one of the walls, but they kept pushing forward.
One day, as they were sitting on the porch, enjoying the warm summer breeze, Sarah turned to David and said, "I’m so glad we did this. It feels good to know that we built this house with our own two hands."
David smiled and replied, "Yeah, and we built it on solid ground, just like the Bible says. We may have had a few bumps along the way, but we stuck with it and made it work."
Sarah nodded in agreement, "That reminds me of what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3. He talked about building our lives on solid ground, and that’s exactly what we did."
David took her hand, "It’s not just about the physical foundation of the house though. It’s about the foundation of our lives too. We need to make sure we’re building our lives on Christ, so that when the storms of life come, we’ll be able to weather them."
Sarah smiled, "You’re right. We need to keep our focus on what’s important and not get too caught up in the material things."
As they sat there, looking out over their new home, they knew that it was more than just a house. It was a symbol of their hard work and their commitment to each other. And, most importantly, it was a reminder that they needed to keep their eyes on Christ and build their lives on solid ground.
"According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it." – 1 Corinthians 3:10
