Title: Say It Loud: Jesus Is Lord!
Age group: Young children (3–7 years)
Time: 20–30 minutes
Theme: Salvation — Romans 10:9a
Goal: Help children learn that saying “Jesus is Lord” and believing in their hearts is how we tell God we trust Jesus. Encourage simple confession and faith with loving support from adults.
Memory verse (Romans 10:9a, NIV): “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’”
Teach the short phrase “Jesus is Lord” as the key part for this lesson.
Materials:
– A toy megaphone or paper megaphone (made from construction paper) or a large speech-bubble cutout
– Simple picture of Jesus (resurrection picture) or children’s Bible with the resurrection story
– Heart cutouts
– Crayons, markers, glue, tape
– Optional: small stickers or stamps for praise time
Opening (3–5 minutes)
– Welcome the children with a smile and clap a simple rhythm. Say: “Today we are going to Say It Loud: Jesus Is Lord!”
– Sing a short, simple song to get attention (example tune: to the melody of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”):
“If you love Jesus and you know it, shout ‘Jesus!’ (shout),”
Repeat with “Say ‘Jesus is Lord!’” with motions.
Tell the Bible story simply (5 minutes)
– Show the picture or open the children’s Bible and say:
“A long time ago, Jesus came to Earth. He taught people about God and He loved people. Some people didn’t like Jesus and He died on a cross to take the punishment for our wrong things. But that was not the end — God raised Jesus from the dead! Jesus is alive! Because Jesus rose, we can be friends with God forever.”
– Keep sentences short and clear. Emphasize: “Jesus is alive. Jesus is Lord.”
Object lesson: Whisper vs. Shout (5 minutes)
– Hold the megaphone (or speech bubble). Explain: “Our verse says to declare with our mouth. That means telling others with your voice. First, we’ll whisper ‘Jesus is Lord’ and then we’ll say it loud so everyone can hear how wonderful Jesus is.”
– Whisper together, then say it loud together. Encourage cheerful, confident voices.
Teach the memory verse with motions (3–5 minutes)
– Say the verse slowly and add simple motions:
– “If you declare” — point to your mouth
– “with your mouth,” — cup hand around mouth
– “‘Jesus is Lord,’” — raise hands up like a cheer
– Repeat several times, letting children try the motions and shout the phrase together.
Activity: Make a “Say It Loud” megaphone or speech bubble (8–10 minutes)
– Give each child a paper cone megaphone or a speech bubble cutout.
– Let them color and decorate it. On the speech bubble, help them write or paste the words “Jesus is Lord” (or a sticker that says “Jesus”).
– When finished, practice saying the memory verse into the megaphone or holding the speech bubble and saying, “Jesus is Lord!”
Simple gospel message and invitation (gentle, kid-friendly)
– Say: “God made us to be with Him, but we all choose wrong things called sin. Sin keeps us from being close to God. Jesus loves us so much that He died and came back to life to take away our sin and be our rescue. When we tell God we believe and say with our mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and trust Jesus in our heart, God becomes our friend and saves us.”
– Keep language loving and simple. Do not pressure. Make clear anyone who wants to talk more is welcome.
Prayer idea — invitation for children who want to tell God they believe
– Lead a simple, repeat-after-me prayer. Give children time to listen and respond if they want. Example:
“Dear God, I am sorry for the wrong things I have done. Thank You for sending Jesus. I believe Jesus died and rose again. I want Jesus to be my Lord and my friend. Thank You for loving me. Amen.”
– Encourage children to use their own words if they prefer. After the prayer, say: “If you prayed and asked Jesus into your heart, tell your teacher or your parent — we want to celebrate and help you!”
Follow-up and next steps
– Tell parents what happened and offer resources: a simple booklet about salvation, a suggestion to read a children’s Bible about Jesus and the resurrection, and an invitation to talk with the pastor or teacher about baptism when the child is ready.
– If a child indicates they prayed to receive Jesus, have a private, warm conversation with them and their parent. Celebrate with a sticker or small card: “I Said It Loud: Jesus is Lord!”
Review questions (ask gently)
– Who is Lord? (Jesus)
– What do we say with our mouth? (“Jesus is Lord”)
– What do we do in our heart? (Believe that Jesus is alive and loves us)
Closing (2–3 minutes)
– Sing the memory song or repeat the memory verse with motions one more time.
– Close with a short prayer: “Thank You, God, for Jesus. Help us to tell others that Jesus is Lord. Amen.”
Notes for teachers
– Keep everything age-appropriate: short sentences, lots of repetition, clear visuals.
– Be sensitive: do not pressure children to pray aloud. Invitation should be warm and voluntary.
– Encourage parents to continue the conversation at home and to read Bible stories about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
– In Baptist practice, salvation leads to baptism and church involvement; invite parents to speak to the pastor if a child trusts Jesus and the family wants to learn about baptism.
Song idea to use any time: Repeat the short chant “Say it loud, say it proud, Jesus is Lord!” with claps or simple percussion to build excitement.
