Renewing Our Hearts with Scrubbing and Suds

Possible Viewpont: Evangelical Christian

Introduction:

Hello, children! Today we are going to talk about something we all do – taking a bath! Did you know that taking a bath can remind us of an important lesson from the Bible? Let’s learn what that lesson is.

Lesson: Renewing Our Hearts with Scrubbing and Suds

In Isaiah 1:16, the Bible says, “Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong.” This verse reminds us that just like we need to clean our bodies by taking a bath, we need to clean our hearts by confessing our sins to God and asking for forgiveness.

When we take a bath, we use soap and water to wash away dirt and grime from our bodies. Similarly, when we confess our sins to God, we are washing away the dirt and grime from our hearts. This is important because when we sin, it separates us from God, and we want to be close to Him.

Just as we make sure to get every part of our body clean when we take a bath, we need to make sure that we confess and repent of every sin we have committed. We can do this by talking to God in prayer, asking Him to forgive us for the wrongs we have done.

Conclusion:

Taking a bath is an important part of our daily routine, but it can also remind us of an important lesson from the Bible. Just as we clean our bodies with soap and water, we need to clean our hearts by confessing our sins and asking for forgiveness. Let’s remember to renew our hearts with scrubbing and suds, so we can remain close to God and live a life that pleases Him.

Object Lesson

The props needed for this illustration are a bathtub or large plastic bin, bubbles or bath foam, a scrub brush or sponge, a towel, and a small plush toy or doll.

To present the illustration, set up the bathtub or plastic bin and fill it with warm water and bubbles or bath foam. Place the scrub brush or sponge and towel nearby. Bring out the plush toy or doll and explain to the children that it represents our hearts.

Read Isaiah 1:16 aloud to the children and explain how it instructs us to wash ourselves clean and get rid of the evil we have done. Explain that just like we need to take a physical bath to clean our bodies, we need to clean our hearts to be pure and pleasing to God.

Demonstrate how to scrub the plush toy or doll clean with the scrub brush or sponge, and then rinse it in the bathwater. Explain that as we wash away the dirt and grime from the toy, we can imagine doing the same thing with our hearts.

Invite the children to take turns scrubbing the plush toy or doll, and then rinsing it in the bathwater. As they work, encourage them to think about any wrong things they may have done and ask God to help them wash those things away.

Once everyone has had a turn, finish by wrapping the plush toy or doll in the towel and inviting the children to give it a hug. Explain that just like the toy is now clean and refreshed, so can our hearts be renewed and made beautiful when we ask God to help us get rid of the bad things we have done.
