Title: Living a Life of Victory in Christ

Scripture Passage: Romans 6

Introduction:

As teenagers, we are faced with many challenges on a daily basis. We are constantly struggling to make the right choices and stay on the right path. However, as Christians, we have been given the power to live a life of victory through Christ. In Romans 6, Paul explains how we can live in victory through our faith in Christ.

Key Verse: Romans 6:14 – “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”

Body:

1. Freedom from Sin

In Romans 6:1-4, Paul explains that through our faith in Christ, we have been forgiven of our sins and have been set free from the power of sin. Christ died and was raised from the dead, and by our baptism into His death and resurrection, we can now live a new life free from sin.

2. Crucifying the Flesh

In verses 5-11, Paul tells us that we must crucify our fleshly desires in order to live in victory over sin. We must identify with Christ’s death and resurrection and consider ourselves dead to sin but alive to God through Christ Jesus. We must no longer let sin reign in our lives, but instead offer ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness.

3. Living by Grace

In verses 12-14, Paul reminds us that we are no longer under the law but under the grace of God. Because of this, sin cannot have dominion over us. We must choose to live by God’s grace and not give in to our fleshly desires. We must constantly remind ourselves that we are no longer slaves to sin but have been freed by Christ.

Conclusion:

Living a life of victory in Christ is not always easy, but it is possible. We must choose to crucify our fleshly desires and live by God’s grace. We must remember that we are no longer under the power of sin but have been set free through our faith in Christ. Let us strive to live a life of victory in Him and bring glory to His name.

Object Lesson

Props needed:
– A large, clear container (such as a fish tank or vase)
– Water
– Small rocks
– Printed verse(s) from Romans 6 (such as verse 11: “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”)
– Tape or adhesive

Presentation:
1. Fill the clear container with water, about halfway.
2. Write the word “sin” on the small rocks using a permanent marker.
3. Place the rocks in the container, allowing them to sink to the bottom.
4. Take the printed verse(s) from Romans 6 and tape them to the outside of the container, where they can be easily seen.
5. Explain to the teens that the rocks represent sin, and they are at the bottom of the container, separated from the surface by the water.
6. Talk about how the water represents the life of victory in Christ that we can have, and how we are called to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God.
7. Using a long object (such as a ruler or stick), stir the water in the container. The rocks may bounce around temporarily, but they will eventually settle back to the bottom.
8. Point out how the rocks don’t stay at the surface, or in the water column – they remain at the bottom.
9. Explain that this is a picture of how sin may still be present in our lives, but it doesn’t have to control us or dictate our actions. As we trust in and follow Christ, we can live in victory over sin.
10. Close in prayer, asking God to help each of the teens live a life of victory in Christ.
