Question: Can homosexuals marry? (Methodist)

As a Methodist, our views on homosexuality and same-sex marriage are guided by our understanding of scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ. The United Methodist Church acknowledges that there are different views and interpretations of scripture on this topic within our denomination, but we hold firm to the belief that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman.

While we affirm the worth and value of all individuals, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+, we also recognize that God’s intentions for human relationships are clearly outlined in scripture. The Bible teaches that sexual relationships should be reserved for marriage between a man and a woman, and that any sexual activity outside of this context is considered a sin.

Therefore, as Methodists, we do not support same-sex marriage because it goes against the biblical understanding of the institution of marriage. However, we also believe that all people are created in the image of God and should be treated with love and respect, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Therefore, while we do not support same-sex marriage, we also do not condone discrimination or mistreatment of individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+. We believe that all people are worthy of God’s love and grace, and we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone feels valued and accepted.
