Seeking Jesus: The Wise Mens Journey

Title: Seeking Jesus: The Wise Men’s Journey

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12 (NIV)

Introduction:
In the gospel of Matthew, we read about the wise men who traveled from the east to seek and worship the newborn king of the Jews. Their journey is not only a physical one but also a spiritual one as they seek to find and honor Jesus. As adults, we can learn valuable lessons from their story about the significance of seeking Jesus in our own lives.

Main Lesson Points:

1. The Wisdom of Seeking Jesus:
The wise men were scholars and astrologers who were well-educated and respected in their community. Yet, despite their knowledge and status, they recognized the importance of seeking Jesus. As adults, we can often become too comfortable or complacent in our faith, but we should follow the example of the wise men and actively seek Jesus in our lives. This requires humility and a willingness to continually grow in our understanding and relationship with Him.

2. The Persistence in Seeking Jesus:
The journey of the wise men was not easy. They traveled a great distance and faced challenges along the way. Yet, they remained persistent in their quest to find Jesus. As adults, we may encounter obstacles and difficulties in our faith journey, but it is crucial to remain steadfast and not give up on seeking Jesus. We must be willing to invest time and effort in pursuing Him, even when it is challenging.

3. The Worship of Jesus:
When the wise men finally found Jesus, they fell down and worshiped Him, presenting Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Their journey was not in vain, as they found the Savior they had been seeking. As adults, we should also approach Jesus with reverence and adoration, recognizing His divinity and sovereignty in our lives. Our seeking should lead to a deep and genuine worship of Jesus, acknowledging Him as our Lord and King.

Conclusion:
The story of the wise men serves as a reminder for adults to actively seek Jesus in our lives, to persist in our pursuit of Him, and to ultimately worship Him with reverence and adoration. Let us learn from their example and make seeking Jesus a priority in our daily lives. Just as the wise men found great joy in their journey, may we also find joy and fulfillment in seeking and worshipping Jesus.

Title: Seeking Jesus: The Wise Mens Journey

Props needed:
– A map or globe
– A small figurine of the wise men
– A small figurine of Jesus in the manger
– A small wrapped gift

Presentation:
Begin by showing the map or globe to the audience. Explain that just like the wise men in the Bible, adults also have their own journey of seeking Jesus. The wise men traveled a long distance to find Jesus, and in the same way, adults need to actively seek Jesus in their lives.

Next, show the figurine of the wise men and place them at one end of the map/globe. Discuss how the wise men were determined to find Jesus and were willing to go to great lengths to do so. Point out that as adults, we also need to have the same determination and willingness to seek Jesus in our lives.

Then, show the figurine of Jesus in the manger and place it at the other end of the map/globe. Explain that just as the wise men found Jesus and worshiped Him, adults need to continue seeking Jesus throughout their lives and worship Him wholeheartedly.

Finally, show the small wrapped gift and explain that just as the wise men presented gifts to Jesus, adults should also present their lives as a gift to Him, surrendering and dedicating themselves fully to Him.

While presenting this illustration, emphasize the importance of actively seeking Jesus, the determination and dedication required in this journey, and the need to continually worship and present ourselves to Him. This visual representation of the wise men’s journey can serve as a powerful reminder for adults to seek Jesus in their own lives.
