The movie “Judah and Tamar” is based on the biblical story from Matthew 1:10-15. It follows the story of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, who marries a Canaanite woman and has three sons. Tamar, a widow of Judah’s eldest son, is supposed to marry his second son, but he dies too. Judah then refuses to let Tamar marry his third son. In an act of desperation, Tamar disguises herself as a prostitute and seduces Judah. She becomes pregnant and presents Judah with proof of her pregnancy. Judah, realizing his mistake, repents and acknowledges Tamar’s righteousness.
