Characters:

  • Joseph
  • Two Prisoners

Scene: A prison cell

Joseph: (enters) Good morning, gentlemen. How did you sleep?

Prisoner 1: (gruffly) What business do you have here, slave?

Joseph: I am here to serve you. Is there anything you need?

Prisoner 2: Actually, we had a strange dream last night. We were hoping you could interpret it for us.

Joseph: I may be able to help, with God’s guidance. Tell me your dreams.

Prisoner 1: (describes his dream)

Prisoner 2: (describes his dream)

Joseph: Both of your dreams are from God, and they have the same meaning. In three days, the cupbearer will be released and restored to his position. But the baker will be put to death.

Prisoner 1: That’s impossible! How can you know the future?

Joseph: I have faith in God who reveals these things to me. Remember me when you are released, and tell the Pharaoh of my unjust imprisonment.

Prisoner 2: We will surely remember you. Thank you for your interpretation.

Prisoner 1 and 2: (exit)

Joseph: (sighs) Lord, I have faith in your plan for me. Please help me to be patient and to trust in your timing.
