New Wine in Old Wineskins – modern day Remix…

a Remix of the Parable found in Mark 9:17

Alright, so picture this: we’ve got a bunch of dudes hanging out, chatting about spirituality and divine stuff. They’re all hyped up, swapping stories about miraculous things they’ve witnessed. Then this one guy, let’s call him Mark, tells them a pretty wild tale.

Mark starts off by saying that one day, there was this group of people who came to a town with a notorious reputation. Like, it was known for its wild parties, flashy entertainment, and general debauchery. It was the kind of place you’d rather not bring your grandma to, if you catch my drift.

Now, these folks that rolled into town were a lot like those dudes, spreading spirituality and all that jazz. They were all about the new, exciting movement that was taking the world by storm. Let’s call it Wineskin Inc. They had their own lingo, their own way of doing things, and they were breaking all the traditional norms.

So, they decide to throw this massive party right smack in the middle of the town square. Everyone was invited, even the sketchy characters who frequented the town. And let me tell you, it was one heck of a celebration – a real spectacle. The crowd was going wild, the music was thumping, and people were dancing like there was no tomorrow.

But then, out of nowhere, this old-timer shows up. Picture a grumpy grandpa with a cane, muttering things like “back in my day” and “you kids have no respect.” His face grows redder by the second, and he starts yelling at the top of his lungs: “What the heck is going on? This is not how we do things around here!”

He’s really old school, you know? Stickler for tradition, routine, and never rocking the boat. He just can’t fathom why these new-age, party-loving folks are wrecking his town. He’s all about the old ways, the status quo, and he can’t stand how this Wineskin Inc. is turning his peaceful abode upside down.

Our guy Mark looks at the old-timer and tells him, “Hey, gramps, calm down for a sec. You can’t pour new wine into old wineskins, it just won’t work. The old wineskins will either burst or go flat, and nobody wants flat party wine, trust me. You gotta be open to change, embrace the new, or else everything will go to waste.”

And boy, does that hit the old-timer like a ton of bricks. It’s like a light bulb goes off in his head, and he realizes that maybe he’s been clinging to outdated traditions instead of truly following the divine path. He takes a deep breath, swallows his stubborn pride, and decides to give these new dudes a chance.

From that day forward, the old-timer starts to let go of his old-school ways. He begins to see the beauty in fresh ideas, different perspectives, and the joy that can be found when you mix things up a little. The town starts to transform into a vibrant, open-minded community where everyone is accepted for who they are.

And that’s what this parable is all about, my friends. It’s a reminder to us modern-day folks that we can’t hold onto rigid traditions and closed minds. We’ve got to let the new wine flow, embrace change, and adapt to the evolving world we live in. Only then can we truly experience the fullness of life and the divine plan that’s out there for us. Cheers to that!
