In James 4, the author starts by asking why there are conflicts and fights among people. He then says that it’s because of our own selfish desires and urges. We may be asking for things that we don’t actually need or that are harmful to ourselves or others. He reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. The author urges us to submit ourselves to God, and to resist the devil and his temptations. We are called to purify our hearts and to humble ourselves before God. The chapter ends with a reminder that only God knows the future and that we should trust in His plans for us.
