In John 3, a conversation takes place between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council. Jesus tells Nicodemus that in order to enter the kingdom of God, one must be born again, not just physically, but spiritually. He explains that God loves the world so much that he sent his only Son, Jesus, to save it. Those who believe in Jesus will have eternal life. Jesus also uses the story of Moses and the bronze snake to illustrate that he will be lifted up on the cross for the salvation of all who believe in him.
