In John 19, Jesus is arrested and brought before Pilate, the Roman governor. The Jewish leaders accuse him of claiming to be a king, and Pilate questions him. Despite finding no fault in him, Pilate succumbs to pressure from the crowd and has Jesus sentenced to death by crucifixion. The soldiers mock and beat him, and he is eventually nailed to the cross, where he dies. After his death, a soldier pierces his side with a spear, and two men take his body and bury it in a nearby tomb.
