Mark 4 tells the story of Jesus calming a storm while he and his disciples were on a boat, showing his power over nature. He then teaches a large crowd using parables about seeds, including the sower and the seed, the mustard seed, and the lamp on a stand. Jesus explains that those who hear his message and understand it will bear fruit for God’s kingdom, while those who do not will wither away. He also teaches that his true family are those who do the will of God.
"Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.’ ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ he asked.
