Three random fictitious conversations between Titus and Naomi about Gumballs. That might have taken place at various times in history… But did not!
Titus: Greetings, Naomi! How art thou doing today?
Naomi: Well, hello there, Titus! I am doing well, thank thee for asking. How about thee?
Titus: I am well, praise be to God! Say, hast thou heard of these sweet treats called gumballs?
Naomi: Gumballs, thou sayest? Nay, I have not heard of such a thing. What are they?
Titus: They are these small, round candies that come in a variety of colors and flavors. They are quite tasty!
Naomi: I see… but why dost thou bring up these gumballs?
Titus: Well, Naomi, I was thinking about how we should treat our blessings. You see, gumballs are meant to be enjoyed in moderation, just like any other good thing in life.
Naomi: Ah, I understand now. We should be mindful of how we enjoy God’s gifts.
Titus: Precisely! And we should also remember that just like gumballs come in a variety of colors and flavors, God’s blessings come in different forms. We need to appreciate and cherish them all.
Naomi: Thou art wise, Titus. Truly, God has given us so much to be grateful for.
Titus: Indeed! Let us remember to savor and cherish every good thing that God provides. And let us also be mindful to not indulge too much in any one thing, including gumballs.
Naomi: Amen to that, Titus! Thank thee for the reminder.
Titus: It was my pleasure, Naomi. May God bless thee abundantly!
Titus: Good day, Naomi! I must ask, have you ever tasted a gumball?
Naomi: A gumball? What is that?
Titus: It’s a small, round, sweet candy that you can chew on. It has several flavors like strawberry, grape, or even watermelon. It’s a delicacy you must try!
Naomi: Hmm, I don’t think I’ve ever seen or come across something like that before.
Titus: Oh, you must! It’s a treat that everyone should experience in their lifetime.
Naomi: Well, I have plenty of treats myself like fruits, nuts, and even honey. I don’t think I need another kind of candy.
Titus: Allow me to make my argument, my dear. Gumballs are not just candies, but they symbolize unity and community. When one shares a gumball, it signifies a bond between two people.
Naomi: I see. But aren’t there other ways to show unity and community without consuming a sugary treat?
Titus: Of course, but gumballs bring joy and happiness to those who indulge in them. It’s a small joy that can brighten someone’s day.
Naomi: I understand that. But as a homemaker, I must be mindful of what my family consumes. I prioritize healthy options over sweets.
Titus: I respect your viewpoint, Naomi. As a church leader, it’s also important to prioritize one’s health, but moderation is key. A gumball every once in a while won’t hurt.
Naomi: I can see that, Titus. Perhaps I will try a gumball for myself and see what all the fuss is about.
Titus: That’s wonderful! You won’t regret it. In fact, I have some gumballs with me now. Would you like one?
Naomi: Sure, why not? This might be an interesting experience.
Titus: Excellent! Let’s make a toast to gum! *both laugh*
Naomi: *takes a bite* Oh, it’s sweet! I can feel the flavor bursting in my mouth.
Titus: I told you it was delightful. I’m glad you enjoyed it, Naomi.
Naomi: Yes, it was a fun and unusual treat. Thank you for sharing, Titus.
Titus: My pleasure, my friend. Who knew something as small as a gumball could bring two people closer together?
Naomi: Indeed. It’s fascinating how something so simple can have such a profound impact.
Titus: That’s the beauty of gum. It may be small, but it’s dependable and always brings a smile to one’s face.
Naomi: I can see that. It was fun to have this friendly debate about gumballs with you, Titus.
Titus: Likewise, Naomi. Until the next argument! *both wave and laugh*
Titus: Alright, Naomi, let’s play I Spy!
Naomi: Okay, that sounds fun! You go first.
Titus: I spy with my little eye, something that is round and colorful.
Naomi: Is it a gumball?
Titus: Yes! You got it in one.
Naomi: Alright, my turn. Never have I ever bought a pack of gumballs.
Titus: Hmmm… I have to admit, I have bought a pack or two in my lifetime. So, I’ll take a drink.
Naomi: Alright, your turn again. I spy with my little eye, something that is chewy and comes in all sorts of flavors.
Titus: Is it… gumballs again?
Naomi: Yes! You’re really good at this.
Titus: How about this one, never have I ever blown a bubble with a gumball.
Naomi: Oh, I definitely have! I used to love trying to see who could blow the biggest bubble.
Titus: Me too! Gumballs are the perfect candy for bubble-blowing contests.
Naomi: Last one, I spy with my little eye, something that is often found in vending machines.
Titus: Hmm… let me think. Is it a gumball machine?
Naomi: You got it! This game is too easy for you.
Titus: Well, I have to admit, I do love gumballs. They’re just so fun to play with and chew on.
Titus was a trusted companion of the Apostle Paul, and was often sent on important missions to establish and strengthen Christian communities throughout the Mediterranean world. He was known for his faithful service and dedication to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
According to Paul’s letter to Titus, he was seen as a leader among the believers in Crete and was appointed by Paul to help establish church leaders and ensure that sound doctrine was being taught within the community (Titus 1:5). Titus was also praised for being a model of good works, demonstrating the love and grace of Christ in all that he did (Titus 2:7).
It is clear that Titus had a deep love for God, which was evident in his commitment to serving His people with humility and sincerity. He reminded the believers in Crete that their salvation was not earned through good works, but was a gift of grace that they must embrace and live out through their daily lives (Titus 3:4-7).
In all that he did, Titus exemplified the character of Christ and the heart of the gospel message. His life serves as an inspiration to believers today, as we seek to follow in his footsteps and boldly proclaim the truth of Christ to the world around us.
Naomi, whose name means “my pleasantness,” is a prominent figure in the Old Testament. She is best known for her story in the book of Ruth where she plays an important role in the redemption of her daughter-in-law Ruth. Naomi was married to Elimelech and together they had two sons, Mahlon and Chilion. Unfortunately, during a famine in Bethlehem, they were forced to migrate to Moab where Elimelech died. Naomi’s sons later married Moabite women, Ruth and Orpah.
Tragically, both sons also died, leaving Naomi as a widow and childless. In her grief, Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem and encourage her daughters-in-law to stay in Moab and start new lives. Ruth, however, refused to leave Naomi’s side and went with her to Bethlehem, saying “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God” (Ruth 1:16).
Naomi’s story is a testament to the power of faith and loyalty. Despite experiencing numerous losses, she never lost sight of her faith in God. Her courageous decision to return to Bethlehem led to the eventual redemption of Ruth, who became the great-grandmother of King David and, ultimately, an ancestor of Jesus Christ.
In the end, Naomi’s name proved to be prophetic; she truly lived a life that was full of pleasantness, even in the midst of great sorrow. Her story is an inspiration to Christians today, reminding us that even in the darkest of times, it is possible to remain faithful and experience God’s grace and mercy.

Gumballs may seem like a simple treat, but they can teach us valuable lessons about life. Just like how a gumball machine works with the turning of a wheel, our lives often turn and spin in unexpected ways. But just like how we can choose the color or flavor of a gumball, we can also choose how we respond to the twists and turns of life. As Christians, we are called to choose joy and trust in God’s plan, even when things don’t go our way. And just like how a gumball brings a smile to our face, we can share God’s love and joy with those around us, even in small ways. So next time you enjoy a gumball, remember to choose joy and share God’s love with others.
