Three random fictitious conversations between Mary, the mother of Jesus and Deborah about Microwave Ovens. That might have taken place at various times in history… But did not!
Mary: Hello, Deborah! What is this box that sits on your kitchen counter?
Deborah: Oh, that’s a new invention called a microwave oven. It can cook food in just a few minutes with the power of radiation.
Mary: That sounds like witchcraft to me. I’ll stick to my trusty oven and open flame.
Deborah: But Mary, think of all the time and effort you would save with a microwave oven. You could use that time to do good deeds or spend time with your family.
Mary: Hmm, that does sound appealing. But what about the safety concerns? Is it not dangerous to cook with radiation?
Deborah: It’s perfectly safe as long as you follow the instructions and use it properly. Plus, we must trust in the Lord’s protection and guidance in all aspects of life, including cooking our food.
Mary: You make a good point, Deborah. Perhaps I should give this microwave oven a chance.
Deborah: I’m glad to hear it, Mary. Remember, the Lord provides us with tools and inventions to make our lives easier and more convenient, but it is up to us to use them responsibly and with gratitude for His blessings.
Moral of the story: As Christians, we should approach technological advancements with discernment and caution, but also with an open mind and willingness to embrace new ways of living. We should trust in the Lord’s guidance and protection in all aspects of life, including the use of modern conveniences like microwave ovens.
Mary: Greetings, Deborah! I heard you have been doubting the usefulness of microwave ovens. I must say, I couldn’t disagree more.
Deborah: Ah, Mary, good to see you! Yes, I must say, I do not find these new contraptions to be of much use. I mean, why zap your food with radiation when you can cook it the old-fashioned way?
Mary: Well, I can see where you are coming from, but think of it this way: we are always in a hurry. Sometimes, as a homemaker, I have to cook for my whole family and it’s very tiring. With a microwave, I can prepare a meal in a minute or two!
Deborah: But at what cost, Mary? The radiation emitted from the microwaves can be harmful to our health. We may not see the effect right away, but in the long run, it can lead to serious health problems.
Mary: That may be true, Deborah, but come on, have you ever tried reheating a cold, soggy pizza in the oven? It just doesn’t taste the same. Microwave’s even heating can make food taste better and fresher.
Deborah: I see your point, Mary, but using a microwave is like taking a shortcut. As a judge, I always tell my court to follow the tried and true methods. We should take the time to cook our food properly, just like our ancestors did.
Mary: Of course, Deborah, I understand where you’re coming from. But, we need to adapt to the changing times as well. Microwave ovens are just more convenient and make our lives easier. Who knows, maybe in a few years, we’ll have a better way of cooking that’s even safer and just as quick.
Deborah: You make a good point, Mary. Maybe I should give microwave ovens a chance. Who knows, I may even become a believer like you!

Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a young woman from Nazareth who was chosen by God to bear His son. She was a faithful and obedient servant of the Lord, and her humility and devotion to Him serve as a great example to all believers.
According to the Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High” (Luke 1:30-32).
Despite the social stigmas that would have come with an unwed pregnancy, Mary submitted to God’s plan and gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem. She raised Him with the help of her husband, Joseph, and watched as He grew into the Son of God who would save the world.
Mary’s faith and trust in God are evident throughout her life. She treasured the words of the shepherds who came to worship Jesus, and she pondered these things in her heart (Luke 2:19). She was present at the wedding in Cana when Jesus performed his first miracle, and she encouraged Him to perform it (John 2:1-11).
Even as Jesus was dying on the cross, Mary remained faithful and stood by Him. Jesus entrusted her care to the apostle John, and from that moment on, she became a mother to all believers (John 19:26-27).
Mary’s life serves as a reminder that God chooses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. She was an instrument of God’s plan to save the world, and her humble obedience to His will continues to inspire Christians today.
Deborah was a prophetess and judge of Israel during the period of the Judges. She was known for her wisdom, courage and faith in God. According to the book of Judges, Deborah was chosen by God to lead the Israelites in battle against the Canaanites, who were oppressing them. She summoned Barak, a military commander, and together they led the Israelite army to victory (Judges 4-5).
Deborah’s leadership was characterized by her trust in God and her belief in the power of prayer. She encouraged Barak to trust in God and assured him of victory, for God had already promised it (Judges 4:6-7). Her faith inspired others to follow her, and God used her to bring deliverance to His people.
Deborah’s story is a reminder that God can use anyone, regardless of gender or background, to accomplish His purposes. She was a woman of great faith and courage, who wholeheartedly trusted in God’s plan for her life. As Christians, we can learn from her example and put our trust in God, just as Deborah did, knowing that He will never fail us.
Microwave ovens have become an essential appliance in modern kitchens. The convenience and speed at which it cooks or heats food is remarkable. However, as Christians, we should be mindful of the possible negative health effects of using microwaves, such as the loss of nutrients and the formation of harmful compounds in some foods. Ultimately, we should trust God to provide for our needs and use our discernment to make wise choices in all aspects of our lives, including the use of microwave ovens. We should also take time to give thanks to God for the abundance of food that we have and the technology that allows us to prepare it quickly and easily.
